Great Week In Raleigh For "no Ferry Tax" | Eastern North Carolina Now

    News Release:

Thank you to our champions in the NC House of Representatives Transportation Committee & Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation: Rep. Charles Jeter, Rep. Phil Shepard, and Rep. John Torbett. They inserted NO FERRY TAX language from House Bill #475 into the House Budget. Thanks to all Sponsors of HB#475, including Reps. Jeter, Shepard, Torbett, and Rep. Paul Tine.

for the Transportation portion of the Budget as proposed by the House. See page 7 for line item #32 in the Transportation portion of the House Budget. See page 25 for the Ferry Tolling Alternatives language which is the exact language of House Bill #475 and included in this Budget.

Today, in unusual Friday meetings, House Appropriations Subcommittees approved their various portions of the Budget. On Tuesday, June 11th at 8:30 am, the full House Appropriations Committee will vote on the Budget, which is contained in Senate Bill #402 http://www.ncleg.net/gascripts/BillLookUp/BillLookUp.pl?Session=2013&BillID

If you would like to listen to the Committee debate on the Budget, use the Audio function for Room #643. In Appropriations, we will have the help of Rep. Michael Speciale. He has supported our fight to stop ferry tolls from the earliest days of this session of the legislature, and is a co-sponsor of HB#475.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the House will debate and vote on this Budget. If you would like to use the internet to listen to the full budget debate, use the Audio function for the House Chamber.

After the House passes its version of the Budget, Senate Bill #402 will return to the Senate for concurrence. Since the Senate and House have different ideas about the budget should contain, the Senate will not concur, and a Conference Committee will be appointed to thrash out the differences between the two versions of the Budget. Our FERRY TOLLING ALTERNATIVES is

an example of an item to be negotiated between the House and the Senate.

We will keep you informed about our progress next week. If you have questions, do not hesitate to call or email us. Thanks for your interest and support on this important issue.

    Best regards,

     Henri and Joe McClees
