Raleigh swamp tries to buy OUR state senate seat with Brinson | Eastern North Carolina Now

Brinson is creature of state senate boss Phil Berger

ENCNow

One overwhelming issue has emerged in our 3rd Senate district state senate race (Beaufort, Craven, Lenoir):   Will voters allow the Raleigh swamp establishment around swampy senate boss Phil Berger to impose its candidate or our district, or will we elect someone who will actually represent people in this district?

If elected to the legislature, state senate candidate Bob Brinson would owe his political soul to one man - liberal Republican state senate boss Phil Berger - according to recently posted campaign finance reports.  It was reported early in the race that Berger was twisting arms of senators loyal to him to send money to Brinson, and 12 responded, all sending Brinson the maximum of $6,400 each. That represents 56.5% of all campaign money Brinson has raised, a total of $76,800.

That does not include the cost of muliple postcards mailed into the district by dark money groups run by Berger political operatives called "Restore NC" and "Neighbors Helping North Carolina", That adds many thousands more spending on behalf of Brinson attributable to Berger.

Berger's team was also working the special interest PACs for Brinson.  Five PACs sent money directly to Brinson for a total of $8,450 or 6.25% of Brinson's fundraising receipts.  There are no records to tell how much PAC money went into the dark money postcard mailings.

Overall, over 72% of Brinson's campaign money came from outside the district, when one looks at all reported contributions, but even that does not include the dark money spending on postcards.. So the out of district money going into Brinson's campaign, if that dark money is included would be an overwhelming majority of it.

Real conservatives see a candidate's connection to establishment hack Phil Berger as a disqualifying factor. Here is an early and close former supporter of Mark Robinson who switched her support to Dale Folwell over Robinson falling into Berger's orbit:

Phil Berger arranging the bankrolling of Brinson raises a big question about Brinson's claim to oppose illegal immigration. Berger was the one who stopped legislation to crack down on sanctuary counties for illegal aliens. With most of his money arranged by someone like Berger who is soft on illegal immigration, it is very hard to beleive Brinson's claims that he would do anything at all about it if he got to Raleigh. On top of that, someone I know tried to talk to Brinson about the issue and found Brinson very poorly informed about illegal immigraton as an issue at the state level, not having a clue what powers the legislature had or didn't have to deal with it or any initiatives taken by other states. If he cared anything at all about the issue, one would think he would have looked into those things, especially the way he tries to use the issue in his campaign. IMHO, Brinson is just mouthing what he thinks voters want to hear, without being serious about that or any issue.

Speciale in the House was always a solid and knowledgable vote against illegal immigration and I would expect him to be in the Senate.

This Brinson is clearly bought and paid for by the Raleigh establishment. That who he would represent in the state senate, not the voters of this district. We can do better than him. We should choose our own senator, not have Raleigh impose one on us.

Reality check! One of those Brinson mailings came out today claiming "Bob will ALWAYS vote for tax cuts for Eastern North Carolina families and small businesses". Funny thing, that is NOT what he did in his partial term as a New Bern alderman. His actual record in public office shows that Bob Brinson in reality voted to RAISE taxes for the taxpayers of New Bern.

Mike Speciale is the candidate who in eight years in the legislature voted repeatedly for tax cuts and never for a tax increase. Bob Brinson is the candidate who in less than two years as an alderman has already voted for a tax INCREASE.

Lets look at the facts and the record, not Brinson's false claims.

Oh and a second mailing came out today, too, from Berger's non-transparent dark money group that claimed Brinson is "transparent". How crazy is that? A non-transparent dark money group claiming their candidate is "transparent"!

Here is another one that shows Brinson is not to be trusted calling himself a conservative. There is a $5,000 contribution from the chief sponsor of the Obamacare Medicaid expansion, a very far reaching leftwing bill that has been a key item in Roy Cooper's liberal agenda. He is a House member and represents Lenoir County within the district, Chris Humphrey, so he is not on the list of the Berger boys and girls above. Of course, Sen. Jim Perry, a big time liberal advocate in the Senate caucus is also part of group at $6,400. With all of these liberal Republicans funding Brinson, how can he keep a straight face when he sends out maiings claiming to be a conservative? What a phony.

As the old saying goes "birds of a feather flock together".
