Raleigh, NC     The Office of Governor Pat McCrory announced the following direct appointments today:

North Carolina Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission

James Forte - Forte, the current North Carolina Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, has accepted Governor McCrory’s appointment to serve on the commission. His 25 years of service in state government includes serving as director of internal operations and legislative affairs with the NC Office of the State Auditor, assistant secretary for natural resources with the Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources and assistant commissioner for the DMV. NCDOT Chief Deputy Nick Tennyson will serve as acting DMV Commissioner until a permanent commissioner is named.

Bill Fowler - Fowler served as a Raleigh police officer and detective from 1964-1972 before joining the Department of Public Safety as a parole officer. After North Carolina's parole and probation supervision systems were merged, Fowler supervised both probationers and parolees for several years. He was appointed to the commission in 2005 and is being reappointed.

The commission makes decisions regarding paroles and inmate populations in the state. Members also advise the governor on clemency matters. The commission has three members. Forte and Fowler will be sworn into these positions Monday, July 1, and their terms last four years.
