    Raleigh, NC     Governor Pat McCrory announced the following appointments today:

North Carolina State Board of Education

    Dr. Mark A. Edwards (Iredell County) - Edwards is the superintendent of the Mooresville Graded School District and was recently named the 2013 American Association of School Administrators' National Superintendent of the Year. Edwards will serve on the Board for one year in a nonvoting capacity.

    The State Board of Education supervises and administers the public school system and the educational funds provided for its support. The board has 19 members, and the governor appoints 14 of them.

    North Carolina State Ports Authority

    John M. Kane (Wake County) - Kane is an associate at Lookout Capital. Prior to this position, he was president and COO of YF Atlantic LLC. Kane is a direct appointment and will serve on the authority for six years.

    The State Ports Authority promotes, develops, constructs, equips, maintains and operates the harbors and seaports within the state or within the jurisdiction of the state. It also maintains internal improvements including the acquisition or construction, maintenance and operation at such seaports or harbors of watercraft, highways and bridges essential for the proper operation of the ports. The authority has 11 members, and the governor appoints seven of them.
