The North Carolina Senate tentatively passed legislation Tuesday that simplifies the state’s 1930s Depression-era tax code, provides major tax relief to all North Carolinians and makes the state far more attractive to job-creating businesses.

    Raleigh, N.C.     The North Carolina Senate tentatively passed legislation Tuesday that simplifies the state’s 1930s Depression-era tax code, provides major tax relief to all North Carolinians and makes the state far more attractive to job-creating businesses.

    House Bill 998, the Tax Simplification and Reduction Act, is a historic agreement between Gov. Pat McCrory, the Senate and the House of Representatives.

    Below is a statement from Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger (R-Rockingham):

    “Today’s historic vote follows months of hard work and fulfills our most important promise to voters: enacting significant tax reform that makes us competitive for 21st century jobs and returns more money to North Carolina families. This plan immediately moves our state from the bottom of national rankings to the 17th best business tax climate in America and sets a strong foundation for continued reform and relief. As other states struggle to accomplish tax reform, North Carolina has proven we are seriously committed to making our state the best place in the country to start a business, grow a business and raise a family.”
