Edwin Reinhold Kelm | Eastern NC Now

    Edwin Reinhold Kelm, age 89, a resident of New Bern, NC died Thursday October 24, 2024, at Riverpoint Crest Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

    A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday November 2, 2024, at Mt. Olive Church of Christ and will be officiated by Mike Caton. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Church Cemetery.

    Mr. Kelm was born in Westchester County, NY on May 21, 1935, to the late William J. Kelm and Freida Romer Kelm. He was a graduate of Mahopac Falls High School and Westchester Community College with a degree in mechanical engineering. Ed joined the United States Marine Corps in 1957 and served until 1962 where he flew with the VMFA-531 Gray Ghost Fighter Pilot Squadron stationed in Cherry Point and the Philippines. On June 28, 1958, he married Ann Elizabeth Taylor who was the girl next door. Ed was an airline pilot with TWA until he retired in 1988. He enjoyed woodworking, his Model Ts, Christian Puppetry, the Buffalo Bills, telling jokes and cruising the Caribbean. He attended Mt. Olive Church of Christ and when asked how he was, always replied "too blessed to be stressed". Ed was a member of Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department and the Lebanon Valley Protective Association in New Lebanon, NY.

    Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ann Kelm, a son, William Kelm and wife Carrie of Belhaven, three grandchildren, Kristina Kelm of Pinetown, Richard Kelm of Portsmouth, VA, Tobias Kelm of Troy, NY, and a niece, Wendy Wenk of Florida.

    In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Wilford Kelm and a nephew, Wayne Kelm.

    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mount Olive Church of Christ.
