Betty Carter Reader | Eastern NC Now

    Ms. Reader passed peacefully in her home in Washington, NC on Saturday October 26, 2024. She was 85 years old. She was raised in Massey Hill and attended Massey Hill High School. She was a member of Lakedale Church of God where she met her husband, O.T. Hardin. Ms. Reader raised eight children and loved being a mother. She also enjoyed cooking and crafting.

    She is survived by four sons, Tim Hardin, Joe Hardin, Scot Reves and David Reader, as well as two daughters Lisa Muckenfuss and Tammy Benetiz.

    She is also survived by ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Ms. Reader has three brothers (Stacy, Maxie and Mitchell) and four sisters (Linda, Gail, Sue and Dottie) still living.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, O.T. Hardin U.S.A.F, daughters, Wanda and Beverly, her father, W.W. Carter and mother, Magdelene Carter.

    In lieu of flowers, the family asks any memorial contributions to be made to help with relief efforts for Hurricane Helene.
