    Mrs. Helen Audry Howard, age 85, a resident of 6000 River Road, Washington, North Carolina died Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at home.

    A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Mother of Mercy Catholic Church officiated by Father Brendan Buckler. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

    Mrs. Howard was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on February 7, 1928, daughter of the late Lawrence Ermatinger and Blanche Bernier Ermatinger. Mrs. Howard is a graduate of Mercy College of Nursing in Ann Arbor, Michigan and worked as a Registered Nurse from 1949 until her retirement in 1985. She married Donald Thomas Howard on June 9, 1951 who preceded her in death following 60 years of marriage. She was an active parishioner at Mother of Mercy Catholic Church of Washington and was a member of the Mom's and Pop's group.

    Surviving Mrs. Howard are her two sons: Mark Howard of Washington and Jim Howard and his wife Nancy of Johnson City, Tennessee; a daughter Ann Marie Howard Dooling and her husband Jim of Winterville, North Carolina and her brother, Robert Ermatinger of Jamison, Michigan. Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by her sister, Joy Ermatinger Montgomery. Mrs. Howard has seven grandchildren.

    In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for memorials to be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society Chapter at Mother of Mercy Catholic Church or Food for the Poor.
