    Raleigh, NC     The Office of Governor McCrory announced the following direct appointments today:

    District Court Judge for Judicial District 3A

    Lee F. Teague (Pitt County) - Prior to being appointed judge, Teague served as a criminal defense attorney at Teague Law Firm, PLLC. He also served for 10 years (1997-2007) as assistant district attorney for the Pitt County District Attorney's Office, and as a partner at the law firm Horne, Horne & Teague.

    North Carolina Public Charter School Board

   •  Helen Nance (Stanly County) - Nance is the founder and chief administrative officer at Gray Stone Day High School. Nance created the Educational Foundation Campaign that raised the funds for the down payment of the school. She attended Peace College and the University of North Carolina. Nance will serve as chair of the board.

   •  Tammi Sutton (Halifax County) - Sutton is the co-founder and executive director at KIPP Gaston College Preparatory School in Gaston, North Carolina. Prior to founding KIPP, she was a teacher at Gaston Middle School. She attended National Louis University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

   •  Joe Maimone (Rutherford County) - Maimone has been the headmaster of Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy since its establishment in 1999. In August 2011, Maimone was inducted into the North Carolina Alliance of Charter Schools Hall of Fame for his work to support the growth of charter schools in North Carolina. He previously served on the Charter School Advisory Board. Maimone attended the University of Chicago and Hamilton College.

    The purpose of the Charter School Board is to authorize and oversee high-quality public charter schools throughout the state and to exercise authority for approval of any charter applicant. Each term length is four years.
