    Barbara Jean Hodges Black, age 86, a resident of Washington, died Friday, April 11, 2025, at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

    A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Pamlico Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jim Reed officiating.

    The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Monday, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.

    Barbara was born on June 26, 1938, in Beaufort County, to the late James Henry Hodges, Jr. and Marjorie Rebecca Everson Hodges. She was a graduate of Washington High School. On June 20, 1959, she married Cedric Wayne Black who preceded her in death on October 7, 1989. Barbara was a homemaker and worked in accounting and as a secretary for Roberson Beverage Company. She loved going to the beach, traveling, she loved canning and cooking, she loved to shop, she loved to read and loved watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where she served as a lay leader and Sunday school teacher. She held the secretary position with the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Stewart, Keith, Greg, and Mike Hodges.

    Survivors include her children, C. Wayne Black of Washington, Douglas Allen Black (Michelle) of Washington and Anita Woolard (Jim) of Pinetown, brother, Larry Hodges of Greenville, grandchildren, Cedric Allen Black, Jesse Wayne Black, Amelia Naomi Woolard, Hannah Renee Black, Chloe Caroline Black, and Haley Marie Black.
