    Mrs. Nina Cutler Boyd Hodges, age 78, a resident of 429 East 12th Street, Washington died Tuesday evening September 17, 2013 at River Trace Nursing Center.

    A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday September 20, 2103 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington officiated by Travis Boyd. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Eric Cahoon, Kenneth Johnson, Mel Keech, Van Respess, Jr., Michael Hudnell and Henry Boyd will serve as pallbearers.

    Mrs. Hodges was born in Beaufort County on July 23, 1935, daughter of the late Claudius Boyd and Nina Virginia Cutler Boyd. On July 16, 1955, she married Bert Nicholson Hodges who preceded her in death on June 12, 2012. She retired from Carolina Telephone where she worked as a telephone operator. Mrs. Hodges loved to cook, tend to her flowers and garden and make ceramics. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Washington.

    She is survived by her children: Claudia Gay Keech and husband Mel of Belhaven; Rachel Susan Cahoon and friend, Van Respess, Jr. and Bert Nicholson Hodges, Jr. of Raleigh; her grandchildren: Samantha Keech, Kenneth Johnson and Eric Cahoon. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her sister: Helen “Rachel” Whealton.

    The family will receive friends 6:30 – 8:00 PM on Thursday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
