Dorothy Mae Hooten Kirk | Eastern NC Now

    Dorothy Mae Hooten Kirk, age 90, a resident of Belhaven, NC died Wednesday June 25, 2025 at her home.

    A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday July 1, 2025 at Pamlico Beach Community Cemetery at Ryder Hill and will be officiated by Rev. John Wayne Hooten, Jr. Pallbearers will include James Mercer, Tim Willis, John Hooten, Robert Tant, Thommy Floyd, and Chris Mercer.

    The family will receive friends from 5:00PM until 7:00PM Monday June 30, 2025 at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven.

    Mrs. Kirk was born in Beaufort County on March 5, 1935 to the late John Charlie Hooten and Essie Foster Hooten. On May 27, 1950 she married John Ernest Kirk who preceded her in death on July 4, 2017. Mrs. Kirk was a nurse and served Beaufort County until her retirement at 74 years old. She loved her garden, her yard work and sewing. Mrs. Kirk was a member of Wades Point Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she served as secretary, treasurer and played piano.

    Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Joyce Kirk Mercer and husband James of Pamlico Beach, JoAnne Kirk Willis and husband Tim of Manteo, a son, John Willis Kirk and wife Donna of Washington, six grandchildren, James Christopher Mercer, Caroline Rene Mercer, Tricia Mercer Lewis, Gabrielle Willis Floyd, Samantha Lee Kirk, Ashley Kirk Tant, seven great grandchildren, and a brother, John Wayne Hooten and wife Judy of Washington.

    She is preceded by a sister, Shirley Hooten Bailey and a grandson, Johnathan Ernest Kirk.
