Sharon Anne Lawhead McDowell | Eastern NC Now

    Sharon Anne Lawhead McDowell, age 77, a resident of Washington, NC died Friday October 24, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

    A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 1st, 2025 at 12:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. The address is 1732 N. Market Street, Washington, NC 27889 and the service will be officiated by Joe Payne.

    Sharon was born in Pitt County on April 7th, 1948 and was the daughter of Robert Joe Lawhead and Lydia Harris Lawhead. She was a 1966 graduate of Washington High School. On December 23rd, 1967 she married Geoffrey McDowell. Sharon worked as a teacher at P.S. Jones Junior High School, in retail at Bougainvillea at the Westin Resort in St. John USVI, and as a receptionist at First South Bank. She was an active member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses for 68 years. Sharon enjoyed the beach, plants and gardening, traveling, making new friends but her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.

    Survivors include her children, Renee Dawn McRoy, wife to Billy McRoy of Washington, Geoffrey Kyle McDowell, husband to Yonica McDowell of Grimesland, and Aaron Shane McDowell, husband to Talyna McDowell of Port Charlotte, FL, her mother, Lydia Lawhead, a granddaughter, Jordan Sharon McDowell, and many spiritual family members.

    She is preceded in death by her husband Geoffrey McDowell and her father, Robert Joe Lawhead.
