Rodman Clark “Roddy” Moore died Tuesday October 21, at his home in Washington, NC. He was born and raised in Washington and was the son of the late Camilla Rodman Moore and Carroll Jackson “Jack” Moore.

    Rodman Clark "Roddy" Moore died Tuesday October 21, at his home in Washington, NC. He was born and raised in Washington and was the son of the late Camilla Rodman Moore and Carroll Jackson "Jack" Moore.

    Roddy graduated from Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, VA, in 1978. He received a degree in Speech Communication from North Carolina State University in 1983. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order, where he served as chapter president his senior year. After graduating, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army, serving in the Signal Corps and reaching the rank of Captain before he was honorably discharged. For the majority of his military service he was stationed in the Franconia region of Germany. Upon returning to the States, he began a career in finance and banking in Greenville and Elizabeth City. In 2002, he returned to Germany, for a twelve-day visit to see his old friend Michèle Madeleine Becker. He never returned from that trip and he and Michèle were married in 2004. They resided in the city of Wurzburg where he taught English at Bayerische Julius-Maximillans University. He also taught English language skills privately to corporate clients. In 2020, Roddy and Michèle purchased the Captain Shaw House in downtown Washington and began splitting their time between there and Germany. He renewed his lifelong membership at St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

    Outside of his professional life, Roddy was a passionate reader and writer. He loved music, cooking, and being in nature. Above all, roddy was a master conversationalist. He had a deep knowledge of history, literature, and culture. Roddy was an accomplished storyteller. He found great satisfaction in his relationships with his students, who came from all points of the globe. He valued the pursuit and disbursement of knowledge. His greatest love was reserved for his family, friends, his hometown, and the Pamlico River.

    In addition to Michèle of Wurzburg, Germany, he is survived by his daughter, Sarah Carson Moore of Greenville, NC, his son Robert Clark Moore (Christina), and his grandson, Carter Alexander Moore of Lowell, NC. In addition, he leaves behind a brother, Thomas J. Moore, II of Washington, stepmother, Patricia Lilley Moore of Washington, NC, stepson Juan Manuel Becker of Rottenburg, Germany, and nephews, Thomas J. Moore, III of Raleigh, NC, and Nathaniel Chase Williams Moore of Rockey Mount, NC.

    A memorial service will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church on Wednesday October 29, 2025 at 11:00AM and will be officiated by rev. Christopher Adams and the Rev. Janet Suerio Rodman. Committal will follow in the Chapel Garden.
