Evelyn Hunter Hodges Hill, age 98, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville, North Carolina.

    Evelyn Hunter Hodges Hill, age 98, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville, North Carolina. She was born November 15, 1927, to the late Harry Skinner Hodges, Sr. and the late Minnie Willard Hodges. Evelyn grew up in the Old Ford Community in Beaufort County with her brother and sisters.

    She graduated from Washington High School and Meredith College with a BA degree. She married Myron "Diddy Boy" Tayloe Hill, Sr. on December 30, 1950. The couple lived in Kinston for most of their lives. Evelyn taught business courses at Kinston High School for thirty years and served as chair of the Business Department before she retired. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international professional society for women educators.

    She and her husband were charter members of Northwest Christian Church in Kinston and worshipped there for 58 years. Evelyn enjoyed teaching Sunday School to the adults in the church. Evelyn enjoyed traveling with her family. She and her husband, Myron, were avid Duke fans, attending many games in Durham.

    In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Myron; and her three sisters, Mary Hodges Smith,Hope Hodges Taylor, and Janet Hodges Alligood; and one brother, Harry Hodges, Jr.

    Evelyn is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Hunter Hill, of Goldsboro, NC; a son, Myron Tayloe Hill, Jr. of Greenville, NC; and two grandsons, Myron Tayloe Hill, III, of Greenville, and Garrett Alaric Hill, of Prague, the Czech Republic. Evelyn wanted to give a special thanks to her nieces Elaine Grubb, Dell Enecks, Connie Lewis, Debbie Waitley, and Kathy Kessing for the loving attention they have always given her. She also wanted to say a special thanks to her caregivers, Carol Davis, Eve Humbles, and Kim White.

    The funeral service will be held at Cypress Glen Retirement Community on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 1:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Pamlico Memorial Gardens,161 Avon Avenue in Washington, NC at 2:30 PM, after the service in Greenville. The services will be conducted by Linda H. Titus.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pitt County Educational Foundation, 1717 W. 5th Street, Greenville, NC 27834 or the charity of your choice.

    Pallbearers are Mike Hodges, Dwayne Alligood, Brian Alligood, Don Waitley, Tom Grubb, Lenwood Lewis, and Ned Kessing; Honorary Pallbearer, Jordon Alligood.
