Goose Creek State Park calendar of events for the month of March, 2011.

    Sunday, March 6      The Eastern Box Turtle      3 p.m.

    Did you know that the Eastern Box Turtle is our state reptile? Did you also know that it can live up to 50 years in the wild? Come to this one-hour ranger-led program and learn more about this fascinating reptile. We will meet in the Auditorium of the Visitor Center.


     Sunday, March 13       Live Oak Hike      3 p.m.

    The Live Oak Trail is one of Goose Creek's most beautiful trails. Come with a willingness to walk approximately 1.5 miles along the beautiful Pamlico Riverfront and enjoy the surrounding flora and fauna, Please dress for the weather and bring binoculars if you wish to view some of our migratory birds. Meet with the ranger in Parking Lot #2.


    Sunday, March 20       The Elusive Mink       3 p.m.

    This animal has been prized throughout the years as having the softest fur in the animal kingdom. Come and see (and feel) for yourself during this one-hour program. This nocturnal animal has some unique habits that make it quite adapted to living in our area. We will meet in the Auditorium of the Visitor Center.


    Sunday, March 27       Meet the King       3 p.m.

    Are you one of the millions of people who don't like snakes? Do you think they are creepy? Do they make your skin crawl? Are you afraid of venomous snakes? What if there was a snake that ate other snakes, including venomous snakes? Well there is! Meet at the Goose Creek Visitor Center to discover this marvel of the snake world.

    Have you been out on our trails already this year and taken some really neat photos? If so, choose your best to enter in our photo contest. If not, come on out, stop by the office to pick up an entry form (or three), then get out there and capture the winning photo!

    There are three age/skill categories:
     •Children (15 and under)    •Adults (16 and older)    •Professionals

    Watch for contest details to be posted/ published/ announced soon.

We cherish too, the Poppy red that grows on fields where valor led, it seems to signal to the skies that blood of heroes never dies.
RALEIGH: Today, Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (NCDNCR) Secretary Reid Wilson celebrated Earth Day by visiting Goose Creek State Park in Washington.
Washington, N.C. – The inaugural Rivers East Advanced Manufacturing Academy took place at Pitt Community College on Friday, September 23rd.
Please join us at the park visitor center on Saturday, October 8th from 3-5 pm where we will host a Halloween Wildlife Event.
On Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., N.C. House of Representatives Speaker Tim Moore, Representative Keith Kidwell, local elected officials and industry leaders will break ground
