Cynthia “Casey” Stanwood Harney | Eastern NC Now

    Cynthia "Casey" Stanwood Harney, age 72, passed away peacefully at home on May 13th, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

    Casey was born on February 26 in Albany, New York, to Charles and Marjorie Stanwood. She graduated from St. Lawrence University and worked professionally as a bank branch manager, a realtor and a media coordinator; however, her greatest joy and true calling in life was being a mother and, later, a grandmother. Nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with her family.

    Casey is survived by her loving husband, Chris Harney; her daughter, Tory Byrd (Cody) of North Carolina; her stepdaughter, Erin Faverey (Tyrone) of Virginia; and her beloved grandchildren, Bryson Faverey, James Byrd, Zayden Faverey, Evie Byrd, and Ryan Byrd. She is also survived by her sisters, Judy Barden of Vermont and Laurie Stettinius (Gray) of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Marjorie Stanwood, and her best canine friend, Copper.

    A service will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Washington, NC on Saturday, May 30th at 11am. Reception at the church to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

    Casey will be deeply missed.
