Rita “Gail” Evans | Eastern NC Now

    With her Fathers' hand in hers, Rita "Gail" Evans, age 78, peacefully entered her heavenly home on June 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

    A graveside funeral service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery at 2 pm Friday, June 5, 2026. Visitation will begin at 1 pm at Paul Funeral Home.

    Gail was born in Beaufort County on February 11, 1948, to the late Rober Donald Cutler and Doris Everett Canady. She was a graduate of Washington High School. One June 5,1965, she married the love of her life, Edward McCoy Evans who preceded her in death. She was a member of First Church of Christ in Washington. Gail had a special gift with children and helped raise many babies over the years, offering them her steady love and gentle care. Above all, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest blessings, filling her life with joy, pride and purpose.

    Gail loved to travel and was always ready for the next adventure. She had a joyful spirit for travel and was forever ready to go at a moment's notice. Her golf trips with her friends filled her days with laughter, companionship, and some of her most treasured memories. With a suitcase never far from reach, Gail embraced every opportunity to explore.

    Survivors include a son, Rodney McCoy Evans (Kathleen), daughters Shannon Evans Brame (Jeffrey), Jaime Evans Burbage (Dean). Eight grandchildren: Alyssa Evans (Spencer), Madison Ferrell (Josh), Cole Brame (Ashlynn), Kaylie Jarvis (David), Braedon Burbage, Shade Evans (Nikki), Lauren Burbage and Landon Brame. Three great-grandchildren: Ryleigh Matthews, Eloise Ferrell, and Davis Ferrell. One sister, Sheila Morgan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her bother Donald Ray Cutler.
