Commented on The George Zimmerman VerdictIn regards to AG Holder continuing his 15 month investigation in the George Zimmerman incident to determine whether he violated the late Trayvon Martin's civil rights, I still contend: If Trayvon wanted to inflict such a "beat down" on this overly curious doughy Hispanic man with a Jewish sir-name, he should have disarmed him first.
The first rule of martial arts training is to never use your skills to fight someone unless you are called to defend yourself, or someone else, from a menacing force. The second rule is to first take away their weapon. Trayvon should have first taken away Zimmerman's weapon, and if he did not feel capable of doing so, he should have run like the wind. I mean, how fast could a doughy Hispanic man with a Jewish sir-name be? Read More: beaufortcountynow.com

Charles is one of my favorite Republicans anywhere.
Why? The man has integrity and therefore, he well recognizes integrity in others. If Charles, who is a pretty gracious guy, doesn't respect you, there is credible reason. The man's a fine barometer of what is real and what is just plain wrong. In fact, Charles is a fair "canary in the coal mine" and me thinks he smells something rather foul.

Commented on Enough Already!Well, my record is to spend smart money on narcotics interdiction, and I expect the Sheriff to continue to keep busting those who are involved with the illicit trade.
I despise narcotics and the stupidity that is so overwhelming by its users. But two things you have to know: the Zimmerman case does not effect any of this, and I am not responsible for the streets of Washington, I only set policy for the funding of a sheriff that is only partly responsible for these societal ills. The Sheriff, and I may not agree on everything, but the sheriff's dept. does a good job of busting the perpetrators of these evil tools.

Commented on Enough Already!I tend to only be concerned about issues that directly effect my local folks.
The Zimmerman trial will not effect local folks in any way whatsoever. It will not even set legal precedent since North Carolina does not have a "Stand Your Ground" provision in our self-defense statutes. What I am concerned about is that there is a growing number of Americans that are oblivious to real issues that do effect them, and may effect not only them but their grandchildren as well. The challenge over the next number of decades is that North Carolinians and all Americans must endeavor to get much smarter than they are now, or they will continue to be responsible for electing politicians that are not capable of solving real problems that are very important to the continuance of this Republic. So, the whole Zimmerman trial is not on the radar for me, and really most everyone I actually respect for their intellect as problem solvers.

Commented on Scandal Ridden Obama Administration Seeks Support from Liberal Base on Global Warming IssuesToday, before a friendly crowd at crosstown Georgetown University, and as promised on Sunday, the Candidate tacitly declared his war on coal as a rallying call for his one-issue-base at a time when the rest of the powers of this world are laughing at him as if Candidate Obama was a paper tiger.
So sad for all Americans that this scandal ridden office holder is held in such low regard abroad, while administering such a corrupted office here at home.

Since I was a young child, I have been exposed to the Reverend Billy Graham, especially when spending time with my grandmother, Ida Mae Dunn and her husband, Stanhope Dunn.
I have always been aware of the man's presence as a great evangelist, and as I grow older, the man's profound sincerity. May God bless Billy Graham for we all have long been blessed by his beautiful spirit.

Commented on CBS re-opens wounds of Vietnam WarA couple of us, here at BCN, grew up during the Vietnam War.
I, fortunately had a suitable draft number to not be conscripted during the last two years of that awful war, and Wyatt flew Spads off the USS Ticonderoga. George is so right about CBS now and CBS then. Cronkite was a hero to the "doves" and they made him an iconic figure. The truth is something altogether different from that whole "Uncle Walter," "Most Trusted Man in America" crap. Thanks for reminding us George.

At one point this morning, the poll showed the special interest advocates up by 2% over the principled Republicans, and now the principled Republicans are up by over 9% points over the avowed special interest wonks. 9% is a big jump when there are this many votes - more than double the total of the next highest subscribed poll in BCN's short history of providing a polling service.
Good work real Republicans, but ... don't let up. The RINOs are organizing, but they will not win Beaufort County's Republican Party without a fight. The poll will be available for all to vote their convictions through the Beaufort County Republican Convention on March 26.

Commented on James K. Polk (1795-1849)James K. Polk was one of my favorite presidents.
Served one term, and did not seek a second, expanded the United States by over a third, poured himself into the job, and, literally, spent his life doing what he thought was best for the land he loved. A true patriot. A quality president. One of the greatest men ever to be born in North Carolina.

Commented on Why the Turnage cannot be savedLisa, you know and understand the essence of my plan.
Also, there is the promotion component and that is complicated, pseudo proprietary for our capabilities at SNI, but the crux of the Turnage is that it must be used, enjoyed. The Turnage must be for everyone, and I know who those people are, and what kinds of music they enjoy and how to recruit the talent at a reasonable price. That actually ties back into what I can do for them on the net, a variable that others naturally struggle with.

Commented on D'ya Think: The Blue GooseWhy did I ever vote to sell the Blue Goose?
Probably because I will never support the building of another shell building, the acquisition of private property converted to public property, or even to continue the funding of economic development going forward. I say this now, even with the hiring of Economic Developer Bob Heuts, who, at first blush, appears to be a really decent guy, and should make a difference over the last guy. I have little confidence in Beaufort County's economic future: some macro, some local hindrances. I am at least working on the local, which is to stop digging the hole. Ridding our selves of the Blue Goose was throwing a good bit of the dirt back into that hole.

Commented on Why the Turnage cannot be savedCharles, my plan supports many partners with many talents coming together to save a landmark, make money and have fun doing it.
Not everyone has to have large sums of "skin in the game", even I don't want too vested; however, I want to be in it enough to push the plan through, and deal with the certain egos that come with some money. Ego is a wonderful thing. Someone, like me, needs a certain sense of self, or they would have a hard time suiting up every day to deal with complex issues with the certain detractors who haven't a clue; however, I do realize that there are some who have an overextended sense of self, irrespective of whatever success they may have enjoyed. The building, the hope, the promise, and the fun of the Turnage can be saved, but egos will have to be checked at the door, and my ideas will need to fully implemented for this plan to work. There is one necessity, however: No government involvement at any level. My history is that government is not qualified to make good decisions. Not enough good, honest, sensible politicians - not by half.

Commented on Rev.Lynn E.Bolden's ProfileRev. Bolden,
I see you have much to say about hydraulic fracturing, and I want to make our space available to you, but I your time would be better spent to use the post format - many more people will see this. Also, I have posts, that are germane to a more regional consciousness, transport to our other fledgling county NOWs, which will increase your ability to make you point to many people. Incredibly, because of our superior proprietary delivery system that powers BCN, well presented points have a long shelf life here. In fact, some of my most popular current posts are the ones that were written, two, three four years ago. Also, and this is very important, BCN is a regional leader in reaching readers, and may be the best searched site originating from Beaufort County, and that includes WITN, WDN, etc. ... Without objection, I am changing you status to writer, but I will need a picture of you and a profile (about 200 words) to get you started. I await your reply, Stan Deatherage

Commented on Why the Turnage cannot be savedJust not by any government entity, or by some "nonprofit" sucking on the public teat.
Certainly the City of Washington is not capable since they have long been managerially challenged. This lost bunch make the Beaufort County Commissioners look like geniuses by relative comparison, and who would have ever thought that could be possible. However, after all said here, I actually have a foolproof plan on how to save the Turnage, and trust me on this one point, it requires no government assistance with those nasty, stupid strings attached. In fact, I may be the only uniquely qualified individual around these parts to have the potential to accomplish such, or ... whoever does attempt this quixotic quest will eventually, or better - very quickly - need my group's unique abilities ... if they are smart ... but then again, when has smart ever mattered when putting together a long term plan to purposefully effect real change around here. With the foreseeable challenges on the near horizon, it just matters very much now to be smarter - way smarter. I'm betting heavily on this. If anyone is interested, you can contact me, but since this does not pertain to any of my jobs that I am already paid for, you better be serious, and you best bring money or know where to get some ... fast. Remember this one truth: The Turnage Theater can be saved for, pretty much, ever, but it will require no government assistance, and complete thinking "outside of the box," which is not a very popular thing to do around here. You qualified to do so?

This is why I am voting against all economic development projects and all economic development infrastructure, as we now know it, with one caveat - I will vote some for some assistance, within tight tolerances, to decrease our holdings in both inustrial parks.
Once, we have divested away all of our property, I will not vote to spend another dime until we, and North Carolina, revolse to fundamentally overhaul the entrie structure of what government sponsored economic development shall be going forward. That is it. The Spinrite deal proves that no elected official can completely know all he needs to know to allocate funding properly. I have done this long enough to know, in the long run, it is truly a losing proposition for the public, and well promotes the moral hazard of government picking economic winners and losers. Moreover, this is government at its worst, yet, on the surface, appears to be a positive step to "do the right thing." Therein lies the irony of its fundamental hypocrisy of bad governing.

Commented on Control Yourself: Part IIRemarkably, I have just read and heard today commentary on the "low-info voter," and how this is the new wave of wannabe cool voters that make up much of the Democrat ranks that keep all of the "brain surgeons," like Candidate Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Vice-candidate Joe Biden in leadership roles running our nation to ruin.
I had no idea that this was a class of Democrat that was being managed for votes at election time. One learns something new every day. The "low-info voter." Kind of has a ring to it.

At that same NACo conference in 2010, where then Speaker Pelosi made her now infamous comment of passing the unread ObamaCare, I spoke with a group of "African America" and Democrat county commissioners (some from north Carolina) about the illogical healthcare legislation, and, moreover, the poorly crafted Stimulus that had recently passed, asking: Just what kind of world are we leaving our grandchildren?
The entire group of like-minded aforementioned county commissioners answered me: "I don't care about the grandchildren, I care about providing for my people now, and President Obama is going to make that happen now." Obviously, "The Math' did not matter with these elected leaders of like-minded ambitions. so I ask: Why do Democrats not care about their nation's fiscal health?

Commented on Answering Larry Britt, From the Horse's MouthThis "I'm Okay, You're Okay" mentality of the squishy liberal wing of the Republican Party is destroying the Republican brand.
Furthermore, the RINO wing has conveniently adapted to the Democrat's idea of bipartisanship, which is a lesson I learned decades ago. That lesson learned from the Democrat super majority ruling Beaufort County: "Stan, you need learn bipartisanship, and govern like us - just do it our way." RINOs despise men of principle because they cannot be co-opted to do it their way - give them the power of the purse, the power of total control. Their maxim of celebrating, and managing, the co-opted politician to the exclusion of a principled government is just as destructive as the extra-liberal policies of today's Democrat. If bipartisanship means the philosophical marriage between the co-opted RINO and the ultra liberal Democrat for the betterment of the Republic, it will be an unprincipled marriage made in Hell. If this is how the Republic moves forward ... why bother? We, our nation, our land, our Republic would already be in the death spiral and our every motion, in that vein, would be the movements of the walking dead. So ... to all of those squishy, carefree joiners; only to go along, to get along, to strive to just fit in, and to always endeavor to never think too deeply on the weighty subjects that truly matter to the very survival of our Republic, I reiterate: Why bother?
