Commented on Court of Appeals rules stun guns are deadly weaponsYou are my authority on all matters pertaining to lethal weaponry. I really don't have a dog in this hunt other than I want the authorities to have all the lethal, or near lethal, force that is necessary for them to keep me and my family safe from the bad guys.

Commented on Salmon Swimming in the SeasoningsWhat if I was so passionate about my fish dish that I used it as a negotiating ploy?
What if, say, I got got cut off from something I really loved, and I became this really passionate Fish "Nazi," and used this gift of fine food as a retaliatory defense mechanism. "NO FISH FOR YOU!" Now, wouldn't that be so wrong?

Me thinks the Washington City Council moves effortlessly from one granting program to another granting source, as if they are playing hopscotch on floating stepping stones above a lake of fire. Hopefully, they shall not teeter, they shall fall, may they remain steadfast in their interminable skip ... until the money runs out. Happy Christmas, and may God bless us everyone.

Commented on I Melt with YouWyatt,
After reading your review, I checked out the trailer, and pieces of the film that I found laying around, and I did notice a good many scenes of men crying. Juxtapose that against the fact that just this week, some of us recognized the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbor, the sacrifice of these men and women at Pearl, and the continued sacrifice of an entire nation, as the U.S.A. marched to wage war against total evil.

Commented on Stan Deatherage's ProfileRuss,
As a county commissioner, I have nothing to do with Smoke on the Water, and thank-you for saying "all of us share your emotions over politics," because I assure you "all of you" don't; however and moreover, I obviously appreciate folks like you. As owner and publisher of Beaufort County Now, and owner of the proprietary script, Symbiotic Publisher, that powers BCN, I have charged myself with producing the most effective, and productive informational platform in the region, which we have done with BCN. The traffic we get through BCN is rather outstanding. Remarkably, I was not sent any notice of Smoke on the Water, except just one a few short days before the event from the Chamber of Commerce, and most especially, I never received a press / promotional package on Smoke on the Water. The way I have to look at this is: We built the information platform, and we, and our contributors create enough quality content to keep our traffic totals extremely high. I will supply space, and I will take my time to upload all quality information provided for these events, for the price of NO CHARGE; but I am not providing a proverbial "babysitting service" to those who won't or don't know how to, perform their respective jobs. Sometimes you have to wonder: To what extent these people want to promote their events - if at all?

Actually, the attendance of the Turnage that night, in their seats, was less than a third. How much, I hesitate to guess.
The Good Lovelies did a great job to the extent that they sound just as good from the stage as they do on their CDs. The Turnage folks have got to learn how to promote their shows on the internet, if they ever want to fill up the theater. Sadly, I doubt the "lovely" ladies will be coming back.

Commented on The Washington, NC Olympic and Sprint Triathlon, 2011: Chapter I - Getting Started, and Then the FinishMarc Primanti of FS (Finish Strong) Series has just provided this article a backlink on their great website (and I don't say that about many websites).
Naturally, we reciprocate by giving fine websites, like theirs, a comparable backlink. Also Marc sent me the names of some of the competitors to list on our article. We want this, and since BCN gets so much traffic, and we do leave these articles up for perpetuity, these spirited efforts of others will be remembered, and are a fine example of the human will to succeed.

Commented on WWLD: "Occupy Wall Street" - it's their jobWe agree on much my liberal friend.
The one overarching theme that I gleaned from the videos of these dislocated children is that they appeared to have soft hands, and when they spoke, the they gave the obvious appearance of having soft minds. There are others piggybacking on the energy of this growing movement, but their opinions are lost in the haze of atmospheric stupidity.

Commented on The Blind SideIt's been 16 months since I first saw "The Blind Side," and I have now watched it now for the second time. Wyatt's review of 4.25 stars speaks adequately of the film's power, and I would like to add that Sandra Bullock's role as Leigh Anne Tuohy was well deserving of the Oscar she won.
In fact Sandra's award for best Actress in a Leading Role is one of the most deserving in the history of the award. Such a great story, such a well cast film, such a sequence of inspirational moments preserved in celluloid.

Commented on Supersized America... Really?Leslie,
I love your article, in part, on the lighter side of living heavy. This has become a national epidemic, and actually, it is a personal problem that can be best corrected through one's total dedication to the maxim of severe lifestyle transformation. At BCN, we appreciate all comments and articles by folks who well know this challenge, and are on some path to correct their lifestyle. BCN, and our sister publications - Pitt County Now and Craven County Now - comprise the largest News and Information Web presence in Northeastern North Carolina. Your (the public at large) contributions will be read, and will make a difference to others, who endure this daily ordeal of living heavy.

Commented on The Obama Administration Suffers Debt DowngradeIt does appear that the Democrat / Socialists ruling from Washington, DC in congress, and the White House, now have done something that no other political party has ever accomplished: They got the good ole USA a debt downgrade from Standard & Poor's.
At least they won't have to worry about big bad Paul Ryan pushing Granny, from the wheelchair, off the cliff to the waiting water below (remember the Democrats well-televised talking points ad). God bless them ... and god bless Granny.

First and foremost, I support law and order, and I do support the Beaufort County Sheriff's Department. I do believe that the Sheriff and his Chief Deputy, Harry Meredith, do a good job in protecting us from the undeniable evil that lurks in the dark corners of our local society.
Moreover, I believe in the United States Constitution, and I trust that Beaufort County's Sheriff does as well. Pursuant to the structure, and real hope for our flagging society, within that document, I do expect the Sheriff to investigate this incident, and if necessary, I expect a full and public apology to Mr. Hickman. What he does to discipline, or more rightly train, his deputies is his business. As I mentioned, I do know Mr. Hickman quite well, and I do expect that public apology to be forthcoming.

Commented on Music in the Streets: One Man's ObservationWhether it is our incomparable script, symbiotic publisher, which powers this website, or our wide range of subjects that are of interest to the public at large, we lead all websites originating from Beaufort County in ranking in the search engines.
Why are we on the first page or second page of Google under the search terms of North Carolina Movie Reviews or North Carolina Film Reviews? North Carolina is a well populated state. Are there not other major publications in North Carolina originating film reviews? I think a large share of the credit goes to our proprietary script, Symbiotic Publisher.

Just yesterday, I hypothesized that we have roughly 20% of our potential workforce unemployed. Of that 20%: 10% legitimately cannot find a decent job, and the other 10% will not work.
Factor in the fact that we have a growing segment of the population on a "fixed income," and one can easily realize that our approach to taking care of the pathetic humankind that continue to breathe our surplus air is not sustainable. Sounds mean spirited? Well, it is the world that we leave our children if we do not act. We cannot continue to provide for those who have earned that "fixed income" if we continue to provide for those who haven't. It is that simple.

George,
This conundrum, unfortunately, is a political problem and will have to be solved in the political arena, and that scares the heck out of me. Most politicians are incapable of solving complex problems with workable solutions because the people who elect them are incapable as well. We're all going to have to get a lot smarter if we are to sustain and save this Republic.

Commented on For That Which I am ThankfulI loved the Beatles, then the Rolling Stones, then Bob Dylan, then Cream ... there was no let up in those Days ... because soon it was all about Led Zeppelin, then the Doors, then Jimi Hendrix, then Van Morrison, then the Beach Boys (love "Pet Sounds"), then the Grateful Dead, then The Who, then Jefferson Airplane, then Neil Young, then Blood, Sweat and Tears, then the Allman Brothers, then Derek and the Dominoes, then Cat Stevens, then Guess Who ... I could just go on and on.
I really feel sorry for the kids today. There is no unique music anymore. It's really sad. Most of my children actually feel slighted.

Commented on Odd Picture on a Beautiful NightThis is actually a "photo" that I would have deleted - maybe not - but that streak was so interesting, then it started to freak me out a little when Meredith told me she could not explain it, with her experience as a photographer.
You're right, Dave, about the bug in flight, close to the lens, so it would blur at a slow speed. I might would have bought that. However, it's too far away from the left side of the image - makes it appear closer to the tree, so we are back to the 'nothing can move that fast to blur at the 80th of a second shooting speed.'

Commented on Odd Picture on a Beautiful NightI know. One wonders about the location on Washington's waterfront, where the photo was taken, where ships from all parts of the world docked for centuries, and still do.
Where pieces of two wars were fought, and a bustling downtown area that, at one time, supported multiple saloons and brothels. Its sets one to wonder.
