Is God trying to tell us something about Love and Inspiration, buddy?

The rain causes a parched earth to produce / puts out fires raging beyond human ability to contain / gives us water holes in a parched desert lest we all die. . .

The Bible says he gives a rainbow to remind us of his power destroy mankind with a flood and a promise that it won't happen again ~~~ BUT he could change his mind if we keep on fighting and destroying this good earth with pollution and GREED.

I did a quick check back to why the Democratic Party nominated Barak Hussain Obama as their candidate. He was younger than most previous candidates / smart and articulate / involved in community organizing in Chicago / of mixed heritage and world-wide experience / preferred negotiation to outright battle with opponents.

That made sense to me in a broken down / war-riddled / red-ink-over-war economy.

For some reason all the Conservatives with Tea Party gas thrown on the fire, just want to burn things down and fry people of any color other than white!

Facts and Stats show the economy is slowly getting better / we are maintaining more peace than war / the President has no scandals over sex or Cheney getting rich without bidding / he uses less Executive Orders than "W" / he didn't make the comment John Dean attributes old George (Worse than Watergate): "It would be so much easier to run this country if it were a Dictatorship~~~as long as I was the Dictator!"

If Fox News and Rush Limbaugh had reported on George's dictatorship and WMD lies, what would they say????

Commented on The next game

Well said, sir!

I have been talking about the need for Term Limits in Congress and all offices for some time now. The wise politician, if he has a clue about our angst for lack of anything---and continued unbalanced tax codes---and lingering Recession, had best realize we voted on a Term Limit in hopes something positive would come of our tax dollars sent in good faith.

It it doesn't happen clearly and fast in the next 2 years ~~~ every incumbent gets a clear limit. It's "off the field to the next bus home, folks!"

I have having a hard time figuring out Congressman Jones' position these days. As a Conservative he went right ahead and backed Bush on WMD and jumping into the Middle East whole hog, yet questions the President authorizing the training of Iraqi soldiers to fight their own battle????

Jones has already made statements about impeaching the President which sounds radical to me. I have liked him in the past, but my patience and concerns are wearing more than thin with these antics.

The President did as REQUESTED by the Military. He has far more important diplomatic issues than a few soldiers and training. In my view, so does this critical Congressman in office because he didn't have to be voted on this year.

I am having trouble figuring our Congressman Jones these days. He would jump on the bandwagon if George Bush wanted to go to the same Middle East over WMD we never found, yet be a critic of arming and training Iraq

1949 is based on the "fear factor gone wild" on the Pacific Coast during 1949. Viewing this last round of election, I think that factor now lives all over the US ~~~ therefore, a Conservative voice is obsessively sought.

I shall write on that immediately.

Commented on Ain't I A Woman?

Lesbian / Gay / Bi-sexual / Transsexual --- what does the "Q" stand for? It seems sexual issues are constantly changing.

Some of you readers might be saying "Eugh." However, the issue of gender identity is more than complex and just now being somewhat understood. This is a most bold step forward for Eastern NC to allow for discussion of these type issues.

I am coping with understanding, myself. I grew up in Atlanta and the gay stuff was there long, long ago. What is interesting is that it is present in EVERY small to large town in the South where I have ever lived!

Despite an emotional subject guaranteed to get people fighting---you are using 1949 as a model! I love it, Stan.

Any thoughts on the splitting of marriage into a religious ceremony OR a civil one?

It sounds like a reasonable compromise to me. BUT then what could we fight over?

You do realize this kind of hate and desire to get rid of John Kennedy led to his head being blown off in Dallas???

It is one thing to disagree with a person / another to get rid of him. The rules for the President require he serve no more than 2 terms. When you look at the grey hair generated to each, a wise person could say "enough" after 4 years.

He lives in a big old house. He is surrounded by people with cameras screaming questions. No matter how much of any situation is out of control, HE IS RESPONSIBLE!

Frankly, how can a free nation where people are supposed to enjoy life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness act as if the President is responsible if you get a bad cold swimming in the ocean in December.

Well, fools, we do some things for ourselves / others to ourselves / these days most people make a big pretense of doing anything and those who are free from all work just make fools of themselves, it seems!

That was quite a rant!!! Are we feeling better yet, buddy??? Sara Palin would have ended it with a yuppie quirk and giggle, man.

Something I remember about the "Trickle Down" stuff from the Chicago School of Finance comes to my more educated mind that remembers and researches stuff with the question: "How's it working for ya???"

It's a bit hard to pump sewage uphill, bud. This economy has been in deep trouble for a long time. The world economy is a part of the picture. Remove all the Federal Regulation of fraud by accounting and theory (as done under Reagan) --- and you get a DEPRESSION.

I'm looking at the numbers and they indicate jobs are up and so is the Stock Market! If it crashes (as some investment counselors fear), who has a majority of power when such "might" happen????? Without the Police, crime rages. They are no longer on Wall Street nor at Banks.

We shall see who is lying and who is telling truth with enough time and tantrum.

Forget the political party stuff, my brother. You are the one who refuses to simply "agree to disagree," --- and that gets us into Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder which afflicted such well-known people as Howard Hughes---and, possibly, Adolf Hitler / Alger Hiss / Richard Nixon / if I had more space many noted names could be listed quickly!

I think you are so right that we need to add about 30' to the end of your bench to accommodate your conservatism!

You are so right, in fact, the Germans are bombing Pearl Harbor!!! Dude, that is so smert it does not really require a reasonable retort

I sat down and had a serious logical conversation between my clergy self and another deep-thinking man of the cloth. He shed some light I had not considered prior to this week actually.

How about we reserve heterosexual marriage for church blessing and then let the civil ceremony cover BOTH types of Union? The real push by homosexuals to find legal blessing is to quit catting around and settle down with society's blessing!

If you think a little more deeply, the fact is --- if we were Romans or Greeks, they allowed for same-sex blessing. Jews did not. Egyptians did / Jews did not. Some tribes all over the world consider homosexuals "special." Some happen to be tribes of the Native Americans, in fact.

Using the civil / religious dichotomy and separating church and state as the Constitution indicates that "Congress shall make no laws . . ." now becomes more obvious and, possibly, Constitutional!

We do want to honor the ideals of the Founding Fathers, don't we? Old Ben Franklin was a sexual creature who loved France for its dalliances --- some of them possibly same-sex. I guess the "Germans bombing Pearl Harbor" has me a little light headed with wild thought, man ---- please forgive if they are a little wild for an abject wild CONSERVATIVE to consider!

Just wait until the RNC in 2016 ~~~ see if Reagan's corpse won't be paraded and we still have his damned Tax Code, bro. People who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

. . . But your are young and conservative and most smart so I just bow down and wait for your eyes to open---hopefully.

NEVER does a President make instant changes nor any event like Bengazi define us. How quickly you seem to forget Iran/Contra, Ollie North, the hate which led to Kennedy's assassination. Surely the economic meltdown happened because of Obama ~~~it matters not that old George Bush was in office ~~~ it's that black man pretending to be President that did it ALL!!!!

If the entire world were composed of "CONTEMPORARY ANCESTORS" you "might" be correct. Since our world in Beaufort County is composed of working people carrying the tax burden the rich and corps don't shoulder under Reaganomics, we might just be damned tired of dismissive jerks taking jabs like a "nattering nabob of negativism" (Spiro Agnew who went to jail over his stuff with Nixon).

Bud, we both need a stiff drink and "maybe" I will save you from a chipping machine accident = know what I mean????

If the idiots try to impeach him, they will certainly lose the next election and we will have the same cow manure we have had for the past 6 years. Sorry if you think crap smells like roses, but I shall forgive your "ignore-ince".

I think "fake gloat" is foolish.

The President was on "Face The Nation Sunday" --- and sounded to me like a man of continued integrity who knows he, like most 2nd Term Presidents, had made much progress, but now the "Contemporary Ancestors of Conservatism" have a TERM LIMIT of only 2 years to continue their REGRESSIVE LEGISLATION of the last 6 years.

Thus far, they claim to be willing to work with the President --- I DOUBT IT!

Tell you what ~~~ If the County Council were in a mood to listen at the public comment time, we might just solve problems without wasting money on lawyers and suits.

I have serious issues with our high appraisals on Property Taxes. Everyone I talk with is agreed that taxes should be "fair and balanced." We are too broke to hire a lawyer, but would not need one if elected officials would just listen with real interest over pretense.

They seem to want to take another vote on the Jail which is already decided by anger and refusal to find a good solution with reason attached!
Commented: Monday, November 10th, 2014 @ 7:36 am By: Gene Scarborough
I think you are citing some important things BUT you are blasting the wrong target!!!

If you only cite the amount of money, you miss what and how it has been spent. The first Income Tax was a temporary one to repay the debt of WWI. We know how that went!!! "It depends on what the definition of Temporary is!!!"

Simply go back to the Great Depression and, first, note what brought it on = GREED and Cooked Books on Wall Street. The FDR Administration set about to Regulate banks and investment firms / help the small farmer with the Soil Bank / insure the savings of the working man with money in the bank. War started at Pearl Harbor and the industrial giant of America was working to the max with production~~~it was all war material to stop the Germans and Japanese from becoming masters of their surrounding territories.

They didn't want it all~~~just any that adjoined them!!!!

Now look at the Great Recession starting under George W. Bush. We started a war in the Middle East over WMD we never found. The Banks and Auto Corps (except Ford which refused the money) go all the "stimulus money." Not one dime has gone to the working man and small businesses = H-M-M-M-M-M????

Bottom up economics (starting with the poorest and going upward to the wealthy) proved itself with the Depression. Farmers could quickly pay their debts and buy essential goods to go forward. Projects like the Hoover Dam provided work and the CCC and WPA built parks and roads which both improved infrastructure and provided working people jobs. The TVA damming of the Tennessee River brought power to the Mountain areas of NC!

The theory that works is BOTTOM UP. The one which we are still doing under VooDoo Economics is TOP DOWN. The theory is that if you boost the top dogs with more money and tax favors, they will invest in America instead of just getting riches investing overseas and in offshore banks.

Which one REALLY WORKS?????

Great pics. I so love my old macro lens by Sigma. It cost more than the 35MM Konica camera Wolf Camera of Atlanta sold me. While at Loris, I found a good Jewish businessman was married to Church Wolf's mother.

The camera was sold to me a a great price after Church carefully listened to what I needed---rather than might want. The choice was a aperture priority automatic control or speed priority. Since is was a total novice to good cameras, he suggested the aperture priority type. Now you can go both ways with a digital camera!

Few, outside of us, knows what the heck I am talking about, brother!

. . . and that is why I love your outlook on life and the great pics you take! I have so slide I took in Europe and England you will love to see with me. The series "Girls of Myrtle Beach" will get us both enjoying nature!!!!

I think you miss the real issues in this article. They are the angst of most voters who want to do "the right thing" and that seems so illusive.

I talked with a sweet black lady here on the eve of election. She was a Democrat, but the abortion issue and same-sex marriage were offensive to her. You could see the angst in her face and hear it in her voice.

This is the result, for real, on hate campaigning. Nobody has a clue about who is telling the truth! The subtle message is clear: ALL POLITICIANS ARE CROOKS!

If I were you, I would look carefully at Conservatism and the hate now attached to it --- especially with Tea Party Republicans. They won, but what will they really do to help the taxpayers in the next 2 years?

People are watching and listening more than ever now. They are still angry that we seem to be getting NOTHING but war from the high taxes paid by the working people of this state and nation. When 80% owns the wealth and the vast majority are paying far more than Mitt Romney's 14% income tax ~~~ we ARE NOT HAPPY!!!
Commented: Friday, November 7th, 2014 @ 7:27 am By: Gene Scarborough
I am going to STRONGLY DISAGREE with your thinking. The reason: I grew up in Atlanta and know what MARTA does to help with ungodly road congestion!

Part of the problem is our desire to "ride and go where we please." The Oil companies love it. The drivers are angry and no longer show "good southern courtesy to let you onto the road." Much of the angst of urban living is attributed to the frustration of a constant traffic jam.

The Research Triangle Area is a gem in many respects. It is a nightmare to be there at rush hour. Before moving to Beaufort County I traveled their roads often trying to do tree work. Try driving a 26,000 gross load on the 440 Beltline. Nobody knows how to use caution around 18-wheelers, much less an F-250 with a big load that can't stop on a dime.

If the people of Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill are wise, they will stay ahead of the traffic curve better than Charlotte or (God help us) Atlanta. It is now a great thing for me to go from baggage claim to the MARTA station at AIA. Their line swiftly takes me to Five Points where I take the eastbound train toward Stone Mountain. It beats the heck out of the clogged highways---now in trouble from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. It costs a fraction of the fuel to get a MARTA token and ride without aggravation and anger from frustrated drivers. The riders and the driver don't shoot birds nor raise angry fists from simple road rage~~~caused by too many people and too few lanes anywhere in metro Atlanta and its 8+ million residents now. Soon it will be 10 million frustrated travelers!!!

The Senate race now gives the Legislative Branch of government power it has not had in a while. Thom Tillis is interesting because of the mega-bucks expended by the rich to get him into place.

Here are the real questions they must address:

(1) The VooDoo Tax code is NOT WORKING. It had a good theory behind it, but the GREED of the Rich and Corps quickly used them NOT to hire and build in the US borders. In addition, the rich are banking Offshore for tax breaks. Therefore, the US infrastructure is falling apart. Will they had the wisdom to close the big holes in the dyke sending a wave of debt across America. Now, they can't blame the President for the disaster. The ball is clearly in their court.

(2) Our re-elected House Representative, Mr. Jones, has clearly stated his view that they need to start Impeachment charges against the President. He is a Constitutional Law specialist and clearly knows what it says. I fail to see anything they might drag up other than the use of Executive Orders against a previous "do nothing" Congress. History already shows George Bush used Executive Orders at about double the number of Barak Obama.

The Congress would make total fools of themselves, but hate cuts off clear thinking with good reasoning. Who knows. For sure it would halt any activities in Washington for needed legislation to help the growing loss of income for middle income families. The rich now own 80% of the wealth in America. Our society was built on a dream of "opportunity for all." It is obvious to me that dream is becoming a nightmare of wealth abuse.

Conservatives had their legislative power now. The big question is: WILL THEY HELP US OR HURT US MORE? I am a small business owner suffering at the hands of Recession. It started under the Bush Administration. It's genesis was many years before under the Reagan Administration. All major legislation or change is an experiment, at best.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it / IF IT IS BROKE, fix it in a big hurry!
