A 45-year Cold War, and the end of the Soviet Union has not ended the argument for and against communism in the United States. While leftist groups continue to honor the communist holiday (May Day), the state of Florida has approved a new history of communism standards in their public schools. Back and forth we go.

The Florida standards emphasize how communist ideologies have historically suppressed individual freedoms, abused powers, and inflicted widespread suffering. The left-wing groups avoid direct dealings with both history and ideology. They focus on issues of pay, unionized collective bargaining, taxing "the rich," political redistricting, and non-enforcement of immigration law advocacy. They use an indirect approach that is ultimately very ideological.

I personally do not fear an honest debate of the subject in all arenas, including our public schools, as long as the conversation uses high scholastic standards. Methods used in political arguments should not be relied on in institutions of learning. Things that are true and proven enlighten in a way sophistry cannot duplicate.

It appears Virginia has its own Mao Zedong implementing her own Marxist Cultural Revolution in our northern neighbor state.

Thanks for the great breakdown of how all this works. The general public really needs to know about the processes and structures of politics. Your mention of the term "low information voter" was appropriate.

The more we know the less likely it is for us to be led around by the nose. An informed public makes less mistakes. In this confusing world we need every edge we can get. How involved people choose to get involved in all of this is up to them. I believe everyone should at least vote, but I also believe everyone should understand how all this works before they do.

Absolutely, our students need to be safe at all times! I have been attending all of my school’s board meetings and was extremely disappointed when the held an undisclosed meeting, where they nixed the idea of adding an SRO (as discussed at previous Board meeting) and chose to add 8 new, non-teaching / managerial positions to our school instead (which was obviously discussed during that “secret” meeting). This was Washington Montessori Public Charter School in Beaufort County, NC. I did let them know that I would hold them responsible, if my child wasn’t protected.

They were talking about this on Stossel last Friday on his episode about rising medical costs. He was discussing the benefits of letting the free market into medicine and direct primary care. Stossel makes the argument that by having government and insurance companies in between the customer and business, it lessens the quality of service provided. Additionally, he mentioned this medical service called Pager. www.cnn.com
It is a phone app that allows you to contact a doctor and they come to your house (like doctors used to do.)

I think it was "Bodoni MT Regular." Soon to come: #HATER, #throwbackthursday, "That is like tots cool", "That requires me to think, so no." (applies to other generations too) "OMG I'm like so random!", "Socialism sounds like a good idea!" (Again, applies to several generations,) "My opinion was swayed by a propaganda piece" (applies to early generations too.)

Liz Partrick's love and appreciation of The Old North State is vividly shown in these images. These important yet fading places remind us of a simpler time. Imagine the sunrises there, the sunsets, hardworking people taking care of themselves, their families, their friends and neighbors, many living off the land, beloved pets who shared these places, lives that began and ended within these walls. Thank you, Liz, for sharing these treasures with us. Keep traveling old dusty roads, with your canine companions by your side, doing what you love best, and reminding us all the while of the beautiful place we call home.
