What is happening is people from Third World shithole countries are trying to get in to the prosperous countries of the world, some to work there and make more money, some to mooch there on welfare, and some for the greater opportunities for crime in a richer country. Some may have decided they can latch onto climate as an excuse, given the play the globalists are making of climate alarmism, but it is not the reason. The reason is always economics. It is why even in the days of apartheid, black Africans in large numbers tried to sneak into the much more prosperous South Africa from neighboring black ruled countries. Relatively democratic and prosperous black ruled Botswana had the same problem from poorer countries around them. Both South Africa and Botswana built elctrified border fences to keep them out.

Or take Israel, whose climate is not any different from other Middle Eastern countries, and the Muslims in those other countries supposedly do not like them, but they have had a huge illegal immigration problem because they are more prosperous than those Muslim run countries. Israel has now built a very robust border wall to keep the illegal alien migrants out and the Netanyahu government has embarked on a thorough deportation campaign to get rid of all of those who snuck in before the wall was built.

Or consider that one of the big countries from where migrants are sneaking into Europe is Afghanistan whose high mountains give it a rather cold climate, and many of them are trying to get to sunny and warm Italy and Spain. Ditto Pakistan.

Even UN agencies admit that most of the those trying to get into western countries are econonic migrants, not refugees of any sort. They are trying to leave floundering socialist Third World failing states and get into wealthy countries where they can collect welfare.

There was a UN agency that to great fanfare in 2004 predicted that by 2010 there would be 10 million "climate refugees" even going so far as to detail where they were going to come from. In 2010, they were forced to admit that, in fact there were ZERO, and the population in the areas they claimed would flee had actually increased. There used to be a great article on that in the English language edition of the German news magazine Der Spiegel I like to link to, but it seems to no longer be online.

Conviction of a crime takes away a number of rights, and rights to own or possess guns is just one of them, and should be. Similarly, adjudication of insanity carries suspension of a number of rights, and the right to own or possess a gun is one of them and should be.

The independent legislature theory has been around for decades and been espoused by a number of past conservative SCOTUS justices, but never before come before the court for a ruling. Roberts writing a decision that muddies the water has become all too typical for him. While it rejects an ironclad adoption of the independent legislature theory and leaves the door open for some interpretation of state Constitutions by state courts, it is very unclear as to the specific standards and how much leeway they may have. The original North Carolina Supreme Court ruling, which has since been modified, just made up law out of whole cloth, which is called legislating from the bench, and that is a threat to separation of powers.
