The Beaufort County Board of County Commissioners Will Meet to Discuss the County's Business

The Government of Beaufort County meets every month for at least one General Meeting to discuss and act on the county's business. Beaufort County employs the County Manager Form of Government, which stipulates that the board of county commissioners allow the county manager to set the agenda, and bring issues before them.

The high point of this meeting could possibly be the election of the board's chairman, and to a much lesser extent, the election of the board's vice chairman. A majority of the county commissioners will decide which commissioner will run all of the meetings for the next 12 months, and who represent the board by signature, and in some limited capacity at some meetings, where this may seem to matter.     Some people put a large state in which county commissioner will be chairman, however that significance has waned over the last decade once the position of chairman has been better explained.

I shall endeavor to reiterate, as is my practice, that these General Meetings are the most important component in the ongoing governing of Beaufort County. They are administered in the full purview of the public, as dictated by North Carolina's Open Meetings Law, and we are wise to video-graph these meetings as public record. You are invited to attend these meetings as your time and our space constraints permit. You are always welcome to watch the broadcast of these meeting on all cable television public access channels, or borrow the DVD from any local library.

Without further discussion, we provide the Agenda here below:

Latest Governing Beaufort County

The city council has only made two official acts as of February 16, 2026
While this afternoon’s update once again included increased probabilities of moderate to major impacts, it will likely be tomorrow before we receive specific accumulation details.
Government and its bureaucracy are not perfect, and never has been in this self-governed society, here at the local level, at our state level, and at our federal level, therefore, it is incumbent upon all elected politicians to seek a comfortable level of representation for our constituents.
Beaufort County is implementing a new emergency alert system. All residents are encouraged to sign up to receive alerts via phone and email.
