News Release:

Raleigh, NC     Governor Pat McCrory issued the following statement in the wake of yesterday's severe thunderstorms and reported tornado:

"Thankfully, we do not have any reported fatalities from the string of severe thunderstorms that raked through the northern half of our state," said Governor Pat McCrory. "I want to thank the efforts of our first responders and credit the training they received that prepares them to respond to severe weather. Last night's storms provide a good reminder to us all that with the warmer weather, the probability of severe storms and tornadoes increases. This is the time of year that we must pay close attention to the weather forecasts, and I urge everyone to have a battery-powered radio that has access to the National Weather Service."

The state's Highway Patrol and NCDOT have been assisting with the storm. North Carolina Emergency Management will be assisting with damage assessments today to determine if this event will meet the threshold of a disaster declaration.
