Vidant Medical Center’s President Steve Lawler was recently appointed vice-chairman of the North Carolina State Health Coordinating Council by Gov. Pat McCrory. Lawler’s term will expire Dec. 31, 2016.

    GREENVILLE, NC     Vidant Medical Center’s President Steve Lawler was recently appointed vice-chairman of the North Carolina State Health Coordinating Council by Gov. Pat McCrory. Lawler’s term will expire Dec. 31, 2016.

    The North Carolina State Health Coordinating Council directs the development of the annual State Medical Facilities Plan. The council receives support from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Health Service Regulation, Medical Facilities Planning Section.

    The basic principles that govern plan development include:

    •   Promoting cost-effective approaches;
    •   Expanding health care services to the medically underserved;
    •   Encouraging quality health care services.

    Lawler has served as president of Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, N.C., since 2007.

    Prior to taking the helm at Vidant Medical Center, Lawler served as chief administrative officer of the health system. He has more than 30 years of health care experience and has worked in the private, public and academic sectors. He also served the nation as a medical service corps member in the U.S. Army. Lawler currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the following: Boys and Girls Clubs of Pitt County; University Health System Consortium; Pitt-Greenville Chamber of Commerce; and Catholic Charities.
