Obituary: Helen Cuthrell Spencer | Eastern NC Now

    Helen Cuthrell Spencer, 92, long time resident of Hyde County and more recently a resident of Hillside Nursing Center, Wake Forest, N.C., died Thursday evening, May 5, 2011, in Wake Forest.

    Born in Hyde County, Nov. 1, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Columbus and Ethel Pugh Cuthrell. She was married to Elwood Lamar Spencer who preceded her in death.

    A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the family plot in Soule Cemetery, Swan Quarter. Steve Bryan will officiate.

    Surviving are three sons, H. Leigh Ballance and wife, Patsy of Raleigh, E. Lamar Spencer, Jr. and wife, Mary of Fairfield and Garry Spencer and wife, Ginger of Albemarle; eight grandchildren, Holly and husband, Bradley Neal, Seth Ballance, Jennifer and husband, Brian O'Neal, Becky and husband, Josh Allen, Misty O'Neal, Sarah and husband, Baxter Ogden, Sallie and husband, Marc Haren, and Katelynn Spencer and friend, David Cone and 10 great-grandchildren.

    She was also preceded in death by a brother, Linwood Cuthrell; four sisters, Nancy Meekins, Mable Butler, Ruby Mann and Lou Litchfield.

    The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
