Jones Votes To Disallow Funds For Warrantless Government Spying | Eastern NC Now

    Washington, D.C. – Last night, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) voted in favor of a provision to rein in the government's unlawful spying on U.S. citizens. The proposal, which passed the House of Representatives as an amendment to this year's defense appropriations bill, would prohibit the use of funds for the warrantless surveillance of American citizens' communications. It would also prevent funds from being used by the government to require or request that any company "alter its product or service to permit the electronic surveillance of any user of said product or service."

    "This amendment is an important step in reforming our intelligence-gathering practices to prevent future breaches of privacy and protect the constitutional rights of U.S. citizens," said Congressman Jones. "We must demand accountability from a government that has broken the trust of the American people and shown a blatant disregard for their freedom."
