Goose Creek State Park Calendar of Events for June | Eastern North Carolina Now

Sunday, June 5      Mallard Creek Stroll      3 p.m.

Come discover one of the least-traveled trails in Goose Creek State Park, Mallard Creek Trail. We’ll walk amongst the Huckleberries and enjoy a stroll through Loblolly Pines, ending at the overlook of Mallard Creek. The hike will be approximately 1.5 miles long, so meet the Ranger at Parking Lot #3 and come prepared for a beautiful hike no matter what the weather brings!

Saturday, June 11       Kayaking Goose Creek      3 p.m.

Explore the laaazzzzy waters of Goose Creek from the seat of one of our tandem kayaks. See majestic Bald Cypress trees lining the shore and Ospreys soaring overhead. Kayaks, PFDs and paddles will be provided. Due to limited space, please call 252-923-2191 to pre-register for this 2 hour guided trip.
We're sorry: As of may 19, 2011 at 11:59 am, the limited-space program listed for June 11, 2011 - Kayaking Goose Creek - is full. We are accepting calls to be on the Waiting List only.

Sunday, June 12       American River Otter       3 p.m.

The American River Otter is a graceful and beautiful resident of many North Carolina rivers and streams. For kayakers and outdoor enthusiasts an encounter with one of these relatively rare, secretive creatures is an exciting experience. Come join us in the auditorium of Goose Creek’s Environmental Education and Visitor Center to learn more as we explore the life of the elusive River Otter.

Sunday, June 19       The Pigmy - Wonder of the Reptile World       3 p.m.

Did you know that hidden in the pine straw of Beaufort County is one of the smallest wonders of the reptile world? Can you imagine reptile enthusiasts traveling hundreds of miles to Beaufort and Hyde counties to search out this little wonder? Meet at the Goose Creek Visitor Center/Education Center to discover what little pink creature brings visitors from so far away.

nbsp;   Sunday, June 25       Coffee with the Birds       10 a.m.

Meet in the park’s Visitor Center to enjoy gourmet coffee and a sweet snack during a short presentation on the birds likely to be seen during the upcoming summer months. We will discuss bird-friendly yards, identify the birds at the park’s feeders, and weather permitting, take a hike to spot some avian residents. This one-hour program is sponsored by the Friends of Goose Creek State Park.

    Sunday, June 26       Amazing Journeys       3 p.m.

Come to this one hour program and discover the travels taken by our coastal sea turtles. All of these unique animals struggle to survive amid human population expansion along the shoreline. This program will focus on their adaptations, conservation efforts and the stories of their amazing journeys through open seas!
