Press Release:

Many companies give preference to job applicants who have some forklift training and industrial safety training. To meet this need, the Division of Continuing Education will offer a one-day class in forklift operations and a four-day class in industrial safety.

The forklift class will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration, or OSHA, 10 training will be 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Aug. 11-15. Both classes will be held at the Beaufort County Skills Center on Page Road east of Washington.

Instructor Ron Skinner will give students an overview of forklift operations, inspections and safe use of a forklift truck. Students will learn to inspect the truck and determine lift limitations. The course will also include instruction on determining the center of gravity and how that determines the proper lift of a load. The course will culminate with an obstacle course and forklift truck inspection to determine a student's ability to safely operate the vehicle.

In the OSHA 10 class, Instructor Cerise Jones will provide entry-level workers a general understanding of how to recognize and prevent hazards in a typical industrial setting. Students will have the chance to earn an OSHA 10 certification card by the end of class.

The registration fee covering both the forklift and the OSHA 10 class is $70. A $5 fee for the OSHA card will be charged on the last day of that class.

Students may register by calling 940-6375 or in person in room 802 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. BCCC accepts Visa, MasterCard and Discover. Checks payable to Beaufort County Community College may be mailed to the attention of Eva Peartree, 5337 U.S. Highway 264 East, Washington, NC 27889.

For more information about this class, contact Lou Stout, director of Workforce Initiatives, at 252-940-6307. For more information about other Continuing Education classes, visit BCCC's Website at www.beaufortccc.edu.
