Rain and the possibility of lots of RAIN. That is the best way to describe what the National Weather Service (NWS) has sent out to the Emergency Managers of Eastern NC. The same forecast continues through Sunday with a slight increase in the possibility of severe weather on Saturday afternoon. See below for more detail from the NWS:

    Day one...today and tonight.

Showers and a few thunderstorms are likely this evening into Tonight. some of the storms will produce localized heavy rainfall That could produce localized flooding of low-lying areas.

    Day one...today and tonight.

A cold front is forecast to become nearly stationary over the weekend into possibly early next week. the front will help to Produce multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms during this period...some with torrential downpours. several inches of rain could occur which may result in localized flooding of small streams and creeks as well as poor drainage areas.

You all know where the areas prone to flooding are in the County so cautious approach to those areas is warranted. The one item that is not addressed by the NWS deals with falling trees. Our ground is fairly saturated and if we get a large amount of rain in the next twenty-four hours followed by high winds that might accompany a thunderstorm then conditions are right for trees to begin falling and blocking roads, across power lines or onto structures.

Take care and have a safe weekend while staying: “Weather Aware”. The Communications Center will advise when threatening weather is approaching or occurring.
