Press Release:

Wilmington, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory has named Tom Adams of Brunswick County the next chairman of the North Carolina State Ports Authority Board of Directors.

"We look forward to Tom Adams' leadership as he takes on this new role within the Board, and we trust in his ability to advance the goals of the North Carolina State Ports Authority," Governor McCrory said. "Our ports are a tremendous resource for the state, providing thousands of jobs and continually attracting potential businesses. Our ports are major selling points and Tom will play an important role in our continued economic development recruitment efforts."

Adams was appointed to the Board of Directors by the Speaker of the North Carolina House in January. He is the president and CEO of Adams Building and Consulting Company, LLC. He has extensive experience in construction management, development and general construction. He serves on the Brunswick County Economic Development Commission, the South Brunswick Islands Small Business Alliance, the South Brunswick Islands Rotary Club and the Cape Fear Council Boy Scouts of America Executive Board.

"North Carolina ports are a significant economic engine for our state, directly and indirectly supporting more than 76,000 jobs statewide. Tom understands the important role of our ports in recruiting business and industry to North Carolina. He is a strong leader and will be a valuable asset to the ports," said NCDOT Secretary Tony Tata.

The Board is responsible for staying informed on world trade and economic trends and developments, and making informed decisions about the Ports' operation. The N.C. State Ports Authority is a body corporate receiving no direct taxpayer subsidy.

"North Carolina ports are the fastest growing ports on the East Coast. I am honored that Governor McCrory has asked me to lead the Board, and I look forward to ensuring the Authority capitalizes on its reputation for unrivaled customer service and ease of doing business," said Adams.

Board membership is comprised of the NC Secretary of Transportation and six members appointed by the governor. The remaining four are appointed by the General Assembly. The governor selects the chairman and the vice chairman.
