Press Release:

GREENVILLE-Eastern North Carolina residents interested in discussing health-related issues for upcoming travel, whether domestic or abroad, can now visit Vidant Family and Sports Medicine-Edenton to get those questions answered. The practice was recently designated by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as a certified travel clinic.

To become a certified travel clinic, physicians must complete a training program through the CDC and receive a designation from the state health department. The travel clinic certification allows physicians to counsel patients on medical issues related to travel, specifically the Yellow Fever vaccine, also, malaria prevention, country-specific diseases, health concerns, and any other questions patient may have about traveling.

There are 125 designated travel clinics in North Carolina. Vidant Family and Sports-Medicine, however, is the only location in northeast North Carolina where the Yellow Fever vaccine can be administered.

Dr. Bryan Bunn took it upon himself to take the steps to make the practice a certified Yellow Fever Vaccine Clinic when one of his patients said the closest clinic was nearly two hours away. "One of my patients mentioned a mission trip they were planning for, and we got into a discussion about the various health issues of traveling to the particular country they were serving," Dr. Bunn said. "Having spent a good deal of time in other countries myself, for study and mission trips, travel medicine is something I enjoy," he added. "I am excited to be a resource to the community for this service."

If you are interested in consulting with Dr. Bunn about health concern and vaccinations needed for traveling, please call Vidant Family and Sports Medicine-Edenton at (252) 482-3047.

Vidant Health, a mission-driven, not-for-profit corporation, owns, leases or has a majority membership interest in eight eastern North Carolina hospitals.
