Press Release:

Greensboro, N.C. — The City of Greensboro has joined a growing number of cities and towns expressing official support for placing Governor Pat McCrory's Connect NC bond proposal on the ballot.

"Greensboro leaders realize that long-term investments in roads, education and parks will yield jobs, a stronger economy and an improved quality of life," Governor McCrory said. "I applaud Greensboro's leaders for their call to address our state's infrastructure needs, not only for today, but for future generations."

The resolution, passed by the Greensboro City Council in May, highlights the importance of the Connect NC investments to the region by emphasizing, "The bond proposals contain projects that would directly benefit Greensboro, Guilford County and the Piedmont Triad Region."

Connect NC will invest $99.1 million in a new College of Engineering facility at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University to prepare students for high demand careers in science, technology, engineering and math. Additionally, Guilford Technical Community College is slated to receive $6.9 million for renovations to update facilities to better train students for the 21st century workforce.

The Greensboro resolution also underscores the urgency to act now by stating, "Interest rates are at historical lows and it has never been less expensive to make long-term investments."

Connect NC is targeted investments in North Carolina's roads, education, public health, parks and military. From small farming towns to large cities, Connect NC projects will benefit every community across the state while creating thousands of jobs along the way.

The transportation proposal would pay for 27 permit-ready highway projects throughout North Carolina that have completed environmental documents. In addition, Connect NC would fund the paving of 176 unpaved secondary roads totaling 113 miles.

Because of the state's fiscal strength and strong balance sheet, no tax increase is needed to fund the bonds and the state's AAA bond rating would be preserved.
