Born: November 01, 1923, Died: July 03, 2015

Nancy D. Collis, a resident of Washington passed away peacefully at home on July 3 at the age of 91.

A celebration of her life will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 7, and will be conducted by The Rev. James R. Horton.

Nancy was an accomplished watercolor artist and was a founding member of the RiverWalk Gallery and Arts Center. Art was a passion she shared with her late husband, Mark Collis, and with her many friends in the Washington community.

Born in Rochester, NY, Nancy is a graduate of Wells College. After raising two sons and being widowed at the age of 45, she returned to Emory University and obtained a Master's Degree in Speech Pathology, a career she pursued until she and Mark moved to Washington from Roswell, GA. In addition to her artwork, she devoted her time in support of many activities that supported the community, and she will be missed by her many friends and acquaintances.

Nancy had a full and rich life. Seldom one to bring attention to herself, she nonetheless had a talent for seeing the best in people and finding ways to make positive contributions to their lives. The beauty and appreciation for the world around her is reflected in the many watercolor scenes she created.

Nancy is survived by two sons, John Donaldson, and his wife Jane, of Alexandria, VA, and Tyler Donaldson, and his wife Janet, of New York, NY, as well as five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made in Nancy's name to the St. Peter's All Souls Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 985, Washington, NC 27889.

Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington is honored to serve the Collis family.
