Have you ever met someone who was weaned on a pickle? | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Nothing is ever right, there is always something wrong.

    This is more than a half-full / half-empty argument. It is about people who seem to have been beat up in life and cannot seem to bounce back. There are many expressions to describe these lost souls who for some reason or another cannot find the strength to overcome past difficulties.

    There are many ways to describe this condition. Here are a few that come to mind (properly plagiarized from others, as is the Bobby Tony way).

    He would complain if they buried him in a Gold Coffin. Bobby Tony's dad
    He is a SNIOP -Susceptible to the negative influence of other people-Zig Ziglar
    He just brightens up a room----- when he leaves it.-Cavett Robert Etc.

    One of my favorite stories is about the waitress who told a guy "isn't it a great day?" He replied, "what's so damn Great about it" and she replied "Well you ought just try missing a few and you would find out."

    I have had my share of ups and downs in life as have we all. There were times when I did not think it would ever get better but I came to the realization that life is a cycle like the waves on the ocean. They rise and fall without prejudice or personal vendettas.

    I do not know the secret or a trick to overcome adversity but I got some good advice from a SGT Wallace in basic training. His motivation was the inspiration born of desperation. If you fell out on the morning run (1000 miles for those who have never endured the basic military training), he would just hoover over you and say:

"Well numb-nuts don't just lay there, do pushups".

    If you have ever came across one of the people I offer the following poem as an explanation if not a solution the old woe is me condition.

   The Pessimist
         Author: Ben King

    Nothing to do but work,
    Nothing to eat but food,
    Nothing to wear but clothes,
    To keep one from going nude.
    Nothing to breathe but air
    Quick a a flash 'tis gone;
    Nowhere to fall but off,
    Nowhere to stand but on,
    Nothing to comb but hair,
    Nowhere to sleep but in bed,
    Nothing to weep but tears,
    Nothing to bury but dead,
    Nothing to sing but songs.
    Ah, Well , Alas! Alack!
    Nowhere to go but out,
    Nowhere to come but back,
    Nothing to see but sights,
    Nothing to quench but thirst,
    Nothing to have but what we've got ;
    Thus thro' life we are cursed.
    Nothing to strike but a gate;
    everything moves that goes.
    Nothing at all but common sense
    Can withstand all these woes.
