What Happens to old Harley Bikers when they lose their driving license?

I was in Signal Mountain, Tennessee to celebrate July 4, 2010 with my family. Jim and I had to run to the store to get some groceries for the cook out. On the way, we passed this old guy on a motorized bicycle.

I had my Flip Video Camera and tried to take a video of him riding. Because of the traffic, I was unable to get a good video of him riding, so I pulled over in a parking lot down the road and waited for him to come by.

He passed so fast that I only got about 2 seconds of video. We pulled out and followed him for about a quarter mile when he pulled into Pritchett's grocery store.

I pulled in behind him and we shot the linked video in the parking lot.

His story is not on the video but the short version is that he was caught DUI on his big Harley and lost his license. I do not think it was his first offense. He owned a cabinet shop in Chattanooga, which is only about 4 miles from Signal Mountain.

When He got his license back and reapplied for insurance, they wanted to charge him about $3000 a year because of his past driving record.

He cussed them out and did some research. He found out that in Tennessee you do not need a license or insurance to ride a motorized bike of less than 125CC but it does have to be licensed to ride on the road as a low speed vehicle.
The Harley Bicycle prior to motor installation: Above.

As any old biker would do, he bought a 1998 Harley Davidson pedal bicycle and added a 90CC Japanese Go Kart Racing engine to the bike with a seven Speed transmission. If you listen closely, he claims it will go 60 MPH and he gets 180 MPG.

He said he has been stopped several times but they could never give him a ticket because he was within the law and carried papers to prove the law to any cop that questioned him. He did say that he had to stop drinking thought as he could still be ticketed for DUI even on his motorized bike.

The moral of the story, I guess is "Don't mess with Old Harley Riders."
