Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory hosted over 70 small and minority owned businesses from across the state today at the Executive Mansion to learn more about Connect NC.

"Connect NC's infrastructure and transportation projects will directly impact many of the small and minority owned businesses in our state," Governor McCrory said. "Many of these businesses also have the potential to increase jobs in North Carolina."

NCDOT Deputy Secretary Nick Tennyson and OSBM Director Lee Roberts presented on Connect NC projects across North Carolina.

"This event demonstrates again the Governor's commitment to utilizing small and minority businesses across the state of North Carolina to compete on state projects," said Dennis English, Director of the Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses. "This is the second event where the Governor has hosted small and minority businesses to the mansion. Our Governor has made a significant effort towards increasing opportunities for small and Historically Underutilized Businesses (Executive Order 24). We understand that these projects offer our small and minority owned contractors unprecedented opportunity. We also believe that by inviting the top small and minority contractors to support the Connect NC bonds, the Governor will find a receptive audience to do what we asked other interested groups to do which is contact their legislators."

Connect NC is targeted investments in North Carolina's roads, education, public health, parks and military. From small farming towns to large cities, Connect NC projects will benefit every community across the state while creating thousands of jobs along the way.

Because of the state's fiscal strength and strong balance sheet, no tax increase is needed to fund the bonds and the state's AAA bond rating would be preserved. This is the second event where the Governor has hosted small and minority businesses to the mansion.
