Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     The North Carolina Republican Party (NCGOP) today released the following statement upon North Carolina Treasurer Janet Cowell's announcement that she will not seek re-election:

"While we have questions about some decisions and priorities in the North Carolina Treasurer's office, today we honor Ms. Cowell's public service and wish her well in retirement." said NCGOP Chairman Hasan Harnett. "The North Carolina Republican Party will aggressively pursue the open seat for North Carolina treasurer. This important role in our state government is responsible for keeping North Carolina fiscally strong and maintaining fiduciary oversight of our state, a position well aligned with the priorities of the North Carolina Republican Party. We will work to identify, recruit and train high quality candidates for treasurer who will protect the state retirement program, maximize our investments, protect our triple A bond rating and preform the duties of state treasurer with transparency and honesty. This will be a high priority for the North Carolina Republican Party and we are excited about the opportunity."
