Release Of Inaugural State Diabetes Guide Emphasizes Prevention And Management | Eastern North Carolina Now

 Raleigh, N.C.     With support from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services' Division of Public Health (DPH) and other partners, the North Carolina Diabetes Advisory Council (DAC) will release the inaugural publication North Carolina's Guide to Diabetes Prevention and Management 2015-2020 on Friday, Dec. 4. The guide will help individuals, community members, employers and health care providers create environments that support diabetes prevention and management.

 The guide will be available online at DiabetesNC.com following the release event on Dec. 4, 2015.

 DPH and DAC will promote a culture of diabetes prevention and management by emphasizing weight management and healthy lifestyles through individual, clinical and community efforts.

 Basketball Hall of Famer David "Skywalker" Thompson, whose wife lives with the chronic illness, will be the featured speaker and will emphasize the connection between physical activity and diabetes prevention and management. A North Carolina native and North Carolina State University basketball star, Thompson was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996. Thompson is a motivational speaker with Unlimited Success Sports Management and travels internationally, addressing business leaders, community groups, athletes and students.
