 Raleigh, N.C.     The Office of Governor Pat McCrory announced the following appointments today:

State Ethics Commission

  • Patrick Roberts (Wake County) — Roberts is the founding attorney of Roberts Law Group, PLLC, a criminal defense law firm with offices in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Charlotte. He served as an Assistant District Attorney in three North Carolina jurisdictions before founding his criminal defense practice. Roberts is a graduate of the Duke University School of Law. In addition, he is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and a graduate of both the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College and the National Criminal Defense College. He will fill the seat as required by NC General Statue 138A-7 as a member of the same political party of the Governor.
  • Jane Finch (Wake County) — Finch was appointed to the Board of Ethics (which preceded the State Ethics Commission) in 1993, was elected vice chairman, and continued to serve on the Board of Ethics until she was appointed to the Ethic's Commission. She served as a clerk on the N.C. Court of Appeals for the Honorable Harry C. Martin. Prior to her position on the commission, she practiced law and became a partner with the law firm of Moore, Ragsdale, Liggett, Ray and Foley in Raleigh, N.C. She graduated from Peace College, UNC Greensboro and North Carolina Central University School of Law. She will fill the seat as required by General Statute 138A-7 as a member of the opposite political party of the Governor. This is a reappointment.

 The purpose of the board is to establish ethical standards for certain public officials, state employees, and appointees to non-advisory state boards and commissions; to require public disclosure of economic interests by certain persons in the executive, legislative and judicial branches; to amend the lobbying laws; and to make conforming changes.
