Work-Based Learning Program gives BCCC students real world skills | Eastern NC Now

    WASHINGTON, NC- Thirty students at Beaufort County Community College (BCCC) have participated in its Work-Based Learning (WBL) program. This unique program provides a valuable opportunity for on the job work experience. Gregg Allinson, program coordinator for WBL, has brought participation in the program to its highest levels in the past four years. Instructors Crystal Watts and Cynthia King also help place students in work experience opportunities.

    Dr. Crystal Ange, vice president of academics, said, "WBL involves the development of job skills by providing the student with employment that is directly related to, and coordinated with, their education. The student's work experience is planned and coordinated by a college representative, and the employer is responsible for supervision of the student on the job."

    This program gives students entering the workforce an advantage over students who are coming out of college with no work experience. The work experience gives students a taste of the expectations of employers when it comes to time management, behavior and team work.

    Students participating in the WBL program are enrolled in the following curriculum programs: Business Administration, Medical Office Administration, Construction Equipment, Agribusiness Technology, Criminal Justice, Human Services and Electrical Engineering.
