WASHINGTON, NC Two students successfully completed the Nurse Aide I program at Beaufort County Community College. Lovely Johnson of Chocowinity and Lisa Perez of Washington completed the night class program. Each graduate was presented a certificate in honor of their completion of the program.

Graduates of the program can provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills for elderly adults. Students learn subjects such as the role of the nurse aide with healthcare team members, infection control, principles of safety and emergency measures, resident's rights, common disorders of each body system, personal care and grooming, nutrition management, death and dying, and psychological effects of aging. Although it is strongly encouraged, a high school diploma or GED is not required for entry into the Nurse Aide I program. Upon satisfactory completion of the course the candidate is eligible to apply for the NC State Certification Examination. Successful completion of the state exam is required in order to be listed as a Nurse Aide I on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry.

The class began January 11, 2016 and ended June 2, 2016. The students completed the Nurse Aide I clinical component at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Washington.
