Press Release:

Beaufort County has been included in the FEMA disaster declaration for Hurricane Matthew. This declaration allows Beaufort County to provide roadside pick-up and collection of vegetative and C&D (construction and demolition) debris caused by Hurricane Matthew. Over the coming weeks collection will occur within Beaufort County and the following municipalities: Aurora, Bath, Belhaven, Chocowinity, Pantego and Washington Park. (The City of Washington is handling its own removal) The removal will be done by Southern Disaster Recovery (SDR) under a contract with the County. The removal schedule for specific areas will be published at a later date.

Under this program vegetative and C&D debris will be removed from State and municipal government (as listed above) maintained rights-of-way within Beaufort County. Residents should move debris to the road right-of-way in front of their home. All debris should be placed within the right-of-way, but well off the road, so as not to impede traffic or create unsafe driving conditions. Do not place debris around mailboxes, driveway culverts, utility poles or utility meters. Do not mix vegetative and C&D debris. Place each in a separate pile for pick-up. Approved C&D debris consists of flood damaged furniture, dry wall, curtains, mattresses, as well as shingles, studs, insulation, and other structural materials damaged as a result of Hurricane Matthew.

Under this program, SDR is prohibited from picking up debris deposited by another contractor. If a resident hires a contractor to collect debris or demolish a structure, the contractor is responsible for removing the debris to an approved and licensed landfill.

Due to the wide spread nature of the debris area please be patient as crews work to complete this roadside removal. County solid waste convenience sites are open if residents wish to dispose of debris themselves.

Only debris caused by Hurricane Matthew will be collected by SDR under this roadside pick-up program. Attempting to have other debris picked up is considered fraud and will be referred for criminal investigation. Call Beaufort County Emergency Management at 946-2046 for questions or to report suspected fraudulent activities.

However, if one believes that Beaufort County government is in full command of the issues of our times, here locally, one might need to steel their resolve for a more perfect understanding of the intellect possessed by the Center-Left /Left Coalition.
To borrow a big phrase from this salient plan originating at the federal level, under President Trump's watchful eye, whose time has finally arrived, even here in the mispent realm of Beaufort County government(s).
We must vet, and elect those who will actually represent the people or we will be stuck with the same mess we have now.
