Press Release:

RALEIGH, NC     The North Carolina GOP will present evidence in a federal court Monday at 1:00 PM in Greensboro of Democrat voter intimidation, including evidence of a leader in the Lee County Democrat Party calling on their supporters to bring weapons, like baseball bats to polling sites.

As reported by the Sanford Herald, Lee County Democrat Party Vice Chair, Mrs. Margaret Murchison went on Facebook in an attempt to stop voter information from being distributed about veterans running for office. Mrs. Murchison suggested that members of her party should bring baseball bats to "nip this in the bud."

The Sanford Herald reports: Murchison's post was referring to a sample ballot that is being handed out at the polls that highlights the military veterans running for office. The post read: "cheap psychology is being used and some voters don't know any better and think the culprit is being sincere. We need enough volunteers at both sites and also on Election day to NIP THIS IN THE BUD even if a baseball bat is necessary."

The NCGOP will argue in court that these published threats have an intimidating and corrosive effect on North Carolina voters and our voting process.

The NCGOP will also present evidence that these threats have a magnified effect after a string of violent attacks on North Carolina Republican Offices across the state.

Dr. Ada Fisher, Life Member of the NAACP and NC Republican National Committeewoman called on Dr. Reverend William Barber, President of the NC NAACP and NC Democrat Chairwoman Patsy Keever to denounce this act of voter intimidation and suppression and to suspend Mrs. Murchison from all NAACP and Democrat sponsored election activities.

"Comments like these serve to suppress and intimidate voters and can incite violence. The problem with NAACP Leaders and Democrats encouraging people to bring baseball bats to the polls, is people may bring baseball bats to the polls," Dr. Fisher said.

Mrs. Margaret Murchison, who encouraged bringing a "baseball bat if necessary," to the polls was named Lee County NAACP Woman of the year.

    Hearing details-
United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina:
    Monday, November 7, 2016, at 1 p.m. in Courtroom 3, Greensboro.
