Upcoming Business Class Series

    The following classes are available through the Continuing Education Department at Beaufort County Community College. To register, call (252)940-6375 or email continuingeducation@beaufortccc.edu. These courses are administrative and business oriented to help working professionals gain skills for the workplace. Many of them are entirely online.

    Entrepreneurship

    Topics in this course include self-analysis of entrepreneurship readiness, the role of entrepreneur in economic development, legal problems, organization structure, and source of financing, budgeting and cash flow. Upon completion, students should have an understanding of the entrepreneurial process and issues faced by entrepreneurs. This online course starts January 5 and costs $185.

    Business Mathematics

    This course covers fundamental mathematical operations and their application to business problems. Topics include payroll, pricing, interest and discount, commission, and taxes. This course runs on Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. but can also be taken online. It starts on January 5 and costs $185.

    Business Communication

    This course is designed to develop skills in writing business communications, with emphasis on reports, correspondence and professional presentations. Upon completion, students should be able to communicate effectively in the work place. This online class starts January 5 and costs $185.

    Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt

    Presented by NC State's Industry Expansion Solutions staff, Yellow Belt training is used by many organizations to introduce Lean Six Sigma as a means for preparing project team members, or as part of a larger LSS deployment. This session covers important tools and techniques for process improvement, including the DMAIC problem solving methodology. By building a common language and a basic understanding of key tools and techniques, the attendee is better prepared to support their organization via Lean Six Sigma improvements.

    This course requires no special software and minimal math skills. Successful completion of the end of course exam results a North Carolina State University Yellow Belt training certificate. This course provides an excellent introduction to LSS so participants can determine if they want to advance to Green Belt / Black Belt training. This all-day class will take place on April 27 from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and costs $130.

    Administrative Office Assistant

    This course will teach students the basics to working in an administrative office. Students will learn proper attire and presentation, business English, document preparation and organization, professional communication, as well as Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Instructor Linda Howard will help students learn how to apply these skills to a professional job and apply them to a professional resume. Students will receive a certificate upon successful completion. This class will run on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6:00-9:00 p.m. from January 23 through May 15 and costs $185.
