    High School Equivalency Orientation

These orientation sessions will guide members of the community through the process of getting their HSE/GED. On January 9, 10, and 11 there will be two daily sessions: a daytime session from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and an evening session from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

    Residential Wiring

This course introduces the care and usage of the tools and materials used in electrical installations and the requirements of the National Electrical Code. Topics include NEC, electrical safety and electrical blueprint reading. Students will learn how to plan, layout and install electrical distribution equipment, lighting, overcurrent protection, conductors, branch circuits and conduits. Upon completion, students should be able to properly install conduits, wiring, and electrical distribution equipment associated with basic electrical installations. This course will start on January 5 and run Monday nights from 6:00-9:50 p.m. It costs $181.25.

    CDL Truck Driving

The Truck Driver Training program at BCCC will train students to drive a Class-A combination vehicle and prepare students for their pre-trip inspection, off road skills test and the driving test which are all components of the NCDMV commercial driver's license (CDL) exam.

This program is an online hybrid program which means that there will be online assignments apart from on-campus driving on the weekends. It will include an emphasis on log truck driving with the opportunity to pursue a post-course internship with a local logging company. This program is made possible through partnerships with Golden Leaf Foundation, NCDOT, Weyerhaeuser and locally-owned insurance groups.

Funding assistance may be available through NCWORKS. There are also scholarships available through State Employees Credit Union and Golden Leaf. It will begin on January 23 and costs $226.25 and requires a textbook. Weekend training will take place on both Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on BCCC's main campus.

    Substance Abuse Counselor

Students can get certified to be a substance abuse counselor online. This certification can be a great step for people looking to enter the counseling field or to advance in their current position as nurses, mental health counselors and family service providers. A certified substance abuse counselor performs twelve core functions, including screening, intake, orientation, assessment, treatment planning, counseling, case management, crisis intervention, client education, report and record keeping, consultation with other professionals in regard to client treatment and services, and referral to treat addictive disorder or disease and help prevent relapse. Beverly Cates and Loretta Ebison will lead this online program. This course satisfies credits for education and ethics toward NC Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board. An additional practicum will still be required of students to achieve state certification. The program runs from January 23 through May 14 and costs $185.

The Incredible Years: Teacher Classroom Management Training

In partnership with the Beaufort/Hyde Partnership for Children, BCCC is excited to offer The Incredible Years teacher class. The course strengthens classroom management, promotes social skills in young children and reduces incidence of classroom aggression by having teachers learn through open discussion, real-life vignettes, role playing and learning to create and implement behavior plans. The program dynamics include: building positive relationships with students and parents, proactive planning, using teacher attention, encouragement and praise, motivating students through incentives, increasing frequency of more appropriate behaviors and teaching positive emotional expression and self-regulation to young children. This course is recommended for teachers of children ages 3-8. The costs of textbook/materials will be paid by the Partnership for early educators in Beaufort and Hyde County. Students outside of these counties must pay textbook/materials cost of $115.90 and can purchase them on the first night of class. This online class will start on January 23. To learn more about professional development technical assistance associated with this course or for a complete cost list of required materials, please contact Justin Rose at (252) 940-6262.
