    Good Morning Everyone:

The roadways in the western part of Beaufort County are icy and sleet covered. The trees and powerlines are coated with ice and small limbs are falling as a result of the wind. We can expect some scattered to isolated power outages throughout the day as the temperatures continue to fall. Bone aching wind chills that can cause Hypothermia or Frost Bite will still arrive tonight, tomorrow and Sunday night. Hats off to "NCDOT" even though the Brine was washed away from the inch plus of rain, the Beaufort County NCDOT has been treating roads as continuously. Please use caution if you do need to drive somewhere and remember the priority of NCDOT road treatments if responding to an incident. The Belhaven and Aurora areas will receive half of the sleet/snow that we are expecting on the western end of the County, however, black ice will still be an issue in those areas also.

The good news is that the storm is moving very quickly and will produce less sleet/snow than was originally expected. See attached briefing. There will be no 11:00am NWS briefing this morning. Unless we get hit with a large number of power outages we will close the EOC at Noon today. The undersigned will then monitor the storm from home and forward will keep everyone updated as the situation dictates. We will keep the EOC staff and equipment in ready/standby status through Sunday evening. The EOC can be reopened within 30 minutes if the situational status changes.

Have a good day and please watch out for the ice when you go outside. If you have any questions please contact the undersigned.
