Creative and Kinetic Classes Starting at BCCC | Eastern NC Now

    Line Dancing

    It is healthy because the exercise in this one hour session is moderate and gentle but it is also just plain fun. It improves memory while you learn various dances and you will enjoy getting ready for weddings and other social events. Participants will learn twenty dances. This $30 class will offer sessions in the morning and evening, with morning classes taking place on Mondays from 10:00-11:30 a.m. and evening classes taking place on Mondays from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Both morning and evening sessions will begin on January 23, March 13 and May 15.

    Carolina Shag Dancing

    The Shag is the favorite couples dance in the Carolinas. Students can learn this traditional social activity and enjoy the fellowship in our dancing classroom. It will not take long for couples to master the basic steps and at least six fun moves. Dance etiquette will be part of the instruction. After this class couples will be ready to confidently join in at many social events. Two sessions of this $50 class will start on January 24 and March 14 and run every Tuesday from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

    Quilting

    This class is being put on thanks to the Pamlico River Quilters' Guild. Students will learn the basics of cutting, piecing, sewing seams and quilting. This spring the class has been expanded to eight sessions to give beginning quilters more experience. Hodges will address fabric choices and color combinations as students produce a wonderful sampler quilt. The class will also visit a local quilting shop. A book and supply list are available upon registration. The program costs $55 and runs on Tuesdays from 6:00-9:00 p.m. starting January 31.

    Stage Make-up Design

    This class is a good opportunity for students interested in any aspect of the theater. Participants will spend five weeks exploring character analysis, make-up design, and application techniques. They will create and execute designs for "old age", 18th Century, Shakespearean and fantasy characters. Each student will provide their own make-up kit, and our instructor, Jeff Phipps, recommends the Ben Nye Cream Base Kit. This class is open to students age 16 and older, and young actors are encouraged to learn and understand these essential aspects of character development. Arts of the Pamlico is hosting this class at the Turnage Theater. This $50 class will begin on January 31 and run on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 4:00 p.m.

    Yoga

    Sharon Owens is a Kripula Yoga certified instructor, and she will lead you to practice movement, breathing work and meditation to become present in the moment and fully alive. The stretching is gentle and the benefits immeasurable. Student will need to bring their own mat. Other equipment will be supplied. The fee for this class has been lowered to $36. Three classes will take place on Thursdays from 5:30-6:45 p.m. One starts February 2, the next starts on March 30 and the final spring session will begin on May 18.
