Getting Cooked in the Squat | Eastern North Carolina Now

I have found that it is always good to end the week or start the weekend with a touch of humor. Since I retired, I have not had to worry much about how to start the week. I seem to remember it starts with an Alarm, but I could be wrong about that. Bobby Tony

Getting Cooked in the Squat
Procrastination gone astray

One of the better lessons in life is often learned too late. The English language, and perhaps all languages, is full of quotations that reduce/expand the human tendency of PROCRASTINATION to a few/many simple/complex words.

There have been poems written about sitting by the side of the road watching the world go by. The House by the Side of the Road

Politicians have expounded on the arena versus the stands. Man in the Arena

It has been my observation that most things happen because someone did not procrastinate. I hesitate to call it progress because many mistakes have been made by not procrastinating. But it seems true to me that there are "DOERS AND VIEWERS." I have been both, but in retrospect, most things happen when a DOER crosses paths with a VIEWER.

Here is a sampling of all the quotes on procrastination that crop up when you Google Search: "procrastination quotes"

“Never put off till tomorrow what may be done day after tomorrow just as well.” – Mark Twain
“Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.” – Abraham Lincoln
“My advice is to never do tomorrow what you can do today. Procrastination is the thief of time.” – Charles Dickens
“Never put off for tomorrow, what you can do today.” – Thomas Jefferson
“Procrastination is the bad habit of putting of until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday.” – Napoleon Hill
“The really happy people are those who have broken the chains of procrastination, those who find satisfaction in doing the job at hand. They’re full of eagerness, zest, productivity. You can be, too.” – Norman Vincent Peale
“A year from now you may wish you had started today.” – Karen Lamb
“The habit of always putting off an experience until you can afford it, or until the time is right, or until you know how to do it is one of the greatest burglars of joy. Be deliberate, but once you’ve made up your mind–jump in.” – Charles R. Swindoll
“Don’t wait. The time will never be just right.” – Napoleon Hill
“Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task.” – William James
“It is easier to resist at the beginning than at the end.” – Leonardo da Vinci
“You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.” – Abraham Lincoln
“You can’t just turn on creativity like a faucet. You have to be in the right mood. What mood is that? Last-minute panic.” – Bill Watterson
“If it weren’t for the last minute, nothing would get done.” – Rita Mae Brown
“One of the greatest labor-saving inventions of today is tomorrow.” – Vincent T. Foss
“The two rules of procrastination: 1) Do it today. 2) Tomorrow will be today tomorrow.” – Author Unknown
“What may be done at any time will be done at no time.” – Scottish Proverb
“Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week.” - Spanish Proverb
“The best way to get something done is to begin.” – Author Unknown
“I remember reading somewhere about an organization called Procrastinators Anonymous. I think they had been in existence for some years but had never gotten around to having a meeting.” – Unknown
“Procrastination is like masturbation. At first it feels good, but in the end you’re only screwing yourself.” – Author unknown, possibly from Monty Python?
“One of these days, is none of these days.” – Unknown
“How soon not now, becomes never.” – Martin Luther
“In delay there lies no plenty.” – William Shakespeare
“Neither a wise nor a brave man lies down on the tracks of history to wait for the train of the future to run over him.” – Dwight D. Eisenhower
“It was my fear of failure that first kept me from attempting the master work. Now, I’m beginning what I could have started ten years ago. But I’m happy at least that I didn’t wait twenty years.” – Paulo Coelho
“Anyone can do any amount of work, provided it isn’t the work he is supposed to be doing at that moment” – Robert Benchley
“Whatever you want to do, do it now! There are only so many tomorrows.” – Michael Landon
"After all Tomorrow is another day" – Scarlett Ohara

Some day, perhaps, I will try to research all those quotes above to see if the people really said them. I think I will put that on my TO BE DONE LATER LIST.

Numerous people have quotes attributed to them that they may not have actually said. Today the MEME conveys all the authority of Shakespeare's quote "It is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing." One of the most fascinating things about internet technology is the ability to actually put words in other people's mouths. All it takes is a picture and some simple software and a keyboard and you can make it appear that your mundane thoughts were actually made by someone a bit more famous and creditable than you. Below is an example:

I have it on reliable authority that this MEME is not true.    Publisher - Maybe it is.

But of course no Bobby Tony post would be complete without me adding my own personal favorites on the subject of Procrastination.

"On the plains of hesitation lie the blackened bones of countless millions who at the dawn of victory lay down to rest, and in resting died." - Adlai E. Stevenson.

"The people who wait for changes before starting are going to get 'COOKED IN THE SQUAT'" - Zig Ziglar
  1. Some of you may want to watch this video now.
  2. Others may want to watch it later.
  3. Still some others will not watch it at all.
Most likely 1 & 3 above are DOERS while 2 are VIEWERS.

Well, as president of Symbiotic Networks (SNI), I countermand that wrongful directive.

Please use that image in great humor ... always ... or, whenever you get the chance.

I just received a demand Email from some company called Symbiotic Networks telling me that I don't own the copyright to the picture shown in this article. They demanded that I cease and desist the use of this image and all cease and desist writing any future articles on Beaufort County Now. I have submitted an alternate image, which does not have a copyright problem.
